However, aquatic species living naturally in river systems, lakes, canals, low-lying fields... are seriously declining in both quantity and output, due to exploitation and fishing activities using electric shock, using nets of incorrect sizes... In addition, the water environment of ponds, lakes, rivers, canals is polluted by wastewater; drugs, chemicals used in agriculture have negatively affected the reproduction and development of aquatic species. Therefore, in recent years, the output of exploited aquatic products in Hanoi has tended to decrease gradually.

To protect and develop aquatic resources in the area, the Hanoi Department of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Veterinary Medicine has promoted propaganda on the protection of aquatic resources, on the prohibition of the use of electric shocks, toxic electric shocks, explosives and some prohibited fishing gears for aquatic exploitation; organized training courses on legal regulations on the management of alien species and invasive alien aquatic species; coordinated with the People's Committees of communes to release tens of thousands of red-eyed carp, black carp, silver carp, etc. to restore resources in the Tich River, Bui River, Da River, Red River, Duong River, Day River, Yen Stream, etc.
