Lilium, the developer of the world’s first electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft that can carry seven people, has announced that it is opening its vehicles to private customers in the U.S. market in partnership with EMCJET, an aircraft management and brokerage company. EMCJET is also Lilium’s exclusive dealer in Texas until 2030. Lilium aims to become the first eVTOL aircraft to be sold to private customers in the U.S. in partnership with EMCJET. EMCJET will open sales to individuals who want to buy Lilium Pioneer Edition Jets domestically, Design Boom reported on October 20.
The Lilium Jet will be available across the United States, initially focusing on major cities in Texas, including Austin, Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas. The first version available to private customers worldwide is the Lilium Pioneer Edition Jets. The aircraft is designed for regional travel with low noise, high efficiency, and zero emissions.
Lilium announced on October 12 that it had completed the high-voltage wiring system for the Lilium Jet. The system, which is patented in the US and Europe, is a key part of the aircraft’s safety and power distribution. The wiring system is a Lilium design, built by its partner GKN Aerospace, a wiring integration specialist, and connector supplier Rosenberger. It acts as the plane’s electrical circuitry, with neatly arranged bundles of cables. The cables will carry power from the battery pack (on the side of the plane) to the motors (on the wings).
Lilium says the cable is so light that it doesn’t add much weight to the aircraft. It can also handle voltages higher than 90 volts, allowing the Lilium Jet to fly efficiently and safely. In June 2023. Lilium said it was the only eVTOL manufacturer licensed by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for aircraft.
The full-scale Lilium Jet is designed to carry a pilot and six passengers for urban and inter-city travel, covering distances of 40 to 201 kilometers at speeds of 300 kilometers per hour. Its fixed-wing design features 36 small fans, which sets it apart from the tilt-propeller designs common among its competitors.
