"This year, parents in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City pay 40,000 VND/child/day for boarding meals, including lunch and snacks. However, many parents always wonder and worry about boarding meals. They want to know what their children will eat, how much each student's portion is, what the finished product will be like after cooking...
Therefore, in the 2024-2025 school year, all preschools in District 1 will publicly provide boarding meals," said Ms. Truong Thi Thanh Trang - specialist in charge of preschool education at the Department of Education and Training of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
Accordingly, schools publicly disclose the menu of the weekly boarding meals to parents. In addition, the school also publicly discloses the quantity of food used to prepare a child's meal and the actual amount of money the school has spent.
In particular, kindergartens also display actual food cabinets of students every day.

"This is also the school's food sample storage cabinet. Previously, this cabinet was often kept in a hidden corner for neatness, but now schools bring it out for parents to monitor.
After each meal is cooked, the kitchen will scoop out a portion equivalent to a normal child's portion to put in this cabinet. In the afternoon, when parents come to pick up their children, they can see what their children had for breakfast, lunch, and snack that day," Ms. Trang added.

On October 16, the Department of Education and Training of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City organized the Nutrition and Development Festival 2024 at Tan Dinh Kindergarten. In addition to the exhibition "School meals for children in kindergartens", the festival also had many activities for both teachers and kindergarten students.
In particular, it is necessary to create conditions for schools to exchange and share experiences in building and implementing diverse, nutritious boarding meals necessary for the harmonious and balanced development of preschool children.
Speaking at the festival, Mr. Vo Cao Long - Head of the Department of Education and Training of District 1 - emphasized: "The education sector of District 1 pays special attention to the quality of school meals for children in preschools. During the nutrition and development week, educational institutions will promote the application of information technology and technology platforms to promote and introduce the types of food used at school to parents.
At the same time, we will strengthen nutrition education for children; promote self-service skills education activities for children in kindergartens; teach children how to prepare some simple dishes and eating culture. Through that, we will publicize to parents the quality of their children's meals so that parents can feel more secure, confident, and supportive," Mr. Vo Cao Long shared.
