Increase food allowance for mountainous students to 900,000 VND/month

The above information is a proposal in the draft Decree regulating policies for nursery children, students, and trainees in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, coastal and island areas, and educational institutions with nursery children and students enjoying policies.

Accordingly, each boarding student is supported with 900,000 VND/month for meals (for no more than 9 months/school year). Compared to the current level, this level has increased by 20%.

In addition to food expenses, students who have to pay for their own accommodation because the school cannot arrange accommodation on campus, or because they need special support and care from relatives (poor health, disability, young age) will be supported with 360,000 VND/month (no more than 9 months/school year).

Each student also receives 15 kg of rice per month, for no more than 9 months per school year.

In addition, the draft decree also proposes a support level for main meals and snacks for children at boarding kindergartens, 360,000 VND per month (no more than 9 months/school year).

For ethnic minority boarding students and university preparatory students, during the school year, those who achieve the title of excellent student will be awarded 800,000 VND/student; good students will be awarded 600,000 VND/student. At each level of education, students are provided with blankets, mosquito nets and other personal items at a cost of 1.08 million VND/student.

Each school year, students are also provided with 2 sets of uniforms, school supplies and learning tools at a cost of 1.08 million VND/student.

In addition, students receive transportation allowance twice a year and are supported with 15 kg of rice/month (not exceeding 9 months/school year). Final year high school students are supported until the month of graduation exam but not exceeding 10 months/school year.

The draft is still under consultation. If approved, the policy will be implemented from the 2024-2025 school year.
