WTI crude oil prices fell 0.24% to $81.46/barrel, Brent crude prices fell 0.30% to $84.84/barrel on Friday as investors weighed weak US fuel demand and booked some profits at the end of the quarter.
Meanwhile, new data showed the US Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index, the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge, remained unchanged in May, raising hopes of a rate cut in September.
On the supply side, EIA data showed rising U.S. crude and gasoline inventories, raising concerns about demand in the world’s largest oil consumer. Oil prices posted two-week gains and fell 0.2% for the week. However, prices rose about 6% in June, bringing the total increase to more than 13% in the first half of 2024.
