Strengthening prevention and control of illegal fishing

The Standing Committee of Phan Thiet City Party Committee has just issued a document directing the City People's Committee, wards and communes to strengthen the prevention of illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (abbreviated as IUU).

Seriously and effectively implementing the directives of the Central Committee, the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, and the City Party Committee Standing Committee on urgent tasks and solutions to strengthen management, prevent, and end the situation of fishing vessels and fishermen in the province illegally exploiting seafood in foreign waters. In the first 8 months of 2023, Phan Thiet City had no fishing vessels violating foreign waters.

Since the beginning of the year, Phan Thiet City has had no fishing boats violating foreign waters.

Phan Thiet City Party Committee requested Party committees, authorities, departments, and organizations to continue to organize and implement innovation, improve the effectiveness of propaganda of legal regulations on combating IUU fishing, and sign commitments not to violate foreign waters.

The City People's Committee directs relevant agencies to coordinate with Thanh Hai and Mui Ne Border Guard Stations and People's Committees of wards and communes with fishing activities to strictly control and manage local fishing vessels operating outside the province and fishing vessels at high risk of violating foreign waters. Party committees of communes and wards with fishing vessels must enhance their responsibility and be more determined in leading and directing local authorities and organizations to seriously implement the task of combating IUU fishing, especially propaganda and mobilization to prevent and combat IUU fishing. Review and make a list of fishing vessels in their localities at risk of violating foreign waters, assign cadres and party members to closely monitor and supervise, and resolutely prevent fishing vessels and fishermen in the area from violating foreign waters to illegally exploit seafood. At the same time, step up propaganda and dissemination of fisheries laws, especially regulations against IUU fishing to the grassroots level, coastal fishing communities and related organizations and individuals; timely and severe criticism of IUU fishing violations.
