A police statement said they found a body in the building at the corner of Ben-Yehuda Avenue and Shalom-Aleichem Street, near the US Embassy in Israel. About 10 people with minor injuries were treated.
The explosion occurred at around 3:15 a.m. local time (07:15 a.m. Hanoi time) in a building in the city center. Bomb disposal units and security forces were deployed to the scene, searching for suspicious objects and other threats, said Dean Elsdunne, spokesman for Israel's emergency services.
Police advise people to follow safety instructions; do not approach or touch debris or shrapnel that may contain explosives.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military said that preliminary results showed that the explosion "was caused by a falling aerial target". No sirens were activated, but the air force increased patrols to protect Israeli airspace.
Reuters news agency quoted the Israeli military's statement as saying: "We are talking about a large unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that can fly long distances. Currently, we do not rule out any possibility related to the origin of this UAV."
Immediately after the incident, Yemen's Houthi movement claimed responsibility for the incident, stating that it would release details of a "military operation" targeting Israel.
Reuters quoted Houthis spokesman Yahya Sare'e posting on social network X that the attack was intended to show solidarity with Palestinians in the war in the Gaza Strip.
The UAVs used can overcome Israel's air defense system and Tel Aiv will continue to be the main target "within range of weapons" of the Houthis, the person claimed .
