This is the second time Duy Tan University students have won the highest prize in the competition, as in 2023, the school's students won both first and second prizes.
DTU30 Team won First Prize at the "Innovation Tech Challenge 2024" competition
Innovation Tech Challenge 2024 is a competition within the Technology Talent Development Project - Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) for the 2023-2024 school year. The project has a major goal of training young generations of Vietnamese people with high technology capacity, aiming to lead the success of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 in Vietnam in the future. 3 technology capacity development courses for young people aged 13-22 deployed at 67 schools (including junior high schools, high schools) and universities in 13 provinces and cities across the country after 1 year of implementation have recorded breakthrough results with nearly 6,400 participants:
- Internet of Things (IoT) Course,
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) Course,
- Big Data Course
in addition to a (supplementary) Basic Programming Skills Course (Coding & Programming - C&P).
To provide maximum support for the project's success, Samsung Vietnam has recently built 2 "SIC Labs" located at:
- Duy Tan University, and
- National Innovation Center.
With an extremely modern training space equipped with a high-configuration computer system, many laptops and smart TVs, SIC students always have the best conditions for learning, practicing and researching.
Within the framework of the SIC project, Samsung Vietnam organized the " Innovation Tech Challenge 2024 " Science and Technology Innovation Competition. This exciting playground provides opportunities for students to demonstrate their abilities after studying, acquiring knowledge and skills when participating in projects, and also to exchange and connect with friends nationwide.
This year's competition has 9 university teams and 11 high school teams from 8 provinces participating. The competition format is Micromouse - Maze Decoding Robot. Participating in the competition, the teams build a robot inspired by the model of a mouse. The robot will be placed in the maze and operate completely automatically to find the finish line in the maze.
Robots operating with high precision brought victory to Duy Tan students
Coming from Duy Tan University, the group of students includes:
- Thi Ly Tiem,
- Dam Gia Nhat Long,
- Nguyen Thi Ha Trang, and
- Nguyen Van Thang
designed a robot named "DTU30" (in response to the 30th anniversary of the school's founding) to compete. Student Dam Gia Nhat Long - a member of the Duy Tan University team shared: " Immediately after receiving instructions from the Organizing Committee, we focused on designing a unique and intelligent robot. To help the robot find the correct path in the maze, we not only had to choose the sensor with the best measurement and calculation capabilities but also 'struggled' in testing the sand table, combining algorithms between A* and Left Follow to choose the optimal direction for the robot. My team received enthusiastic support from MSc. Pham Quyen Anh - Manager of STEM & FAB Labs Center and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Gia Nhu - Principal of the School of Computer Science (SCS), MSc . Nguyen Quoc Long - Lecturer of the School of Computer Science (SCS) at the same time, we also practiced continuously in the STEM & FAB Labs at the school with full modern equipment and machinery, so it was very convenient to build the DTU30 robot. "
" The teams all designed very impressive robots. During the competition, there were many errors such as the robot getting stuck at the finish line and not being able to return, the startup was frozen or the robot could not complete a complete lap in the maze, but the teams always quickly fixed them. Duy Tan students' robot DTU30 was the only one that could run to the finish line and return to the starting point, completing its laps to score points, and also had 'secret' backup strategies so the robot ran very 'smoothly'. Our robot completed 2 complete laps and touched the finish line 3 times, bringing overwhelming victory over other teams. ", Nguyen Thi Ha Trang shared more.
The competition took place in 2 rounds in the morning and afternoon with increasing difficulty after each round, the best robots were selected for awards. The Organizing Committee awarded First, Second, Third and Encouragement prizes to the University and High School groups.
In the University block, team DTU30 - Duy Tan University was named First Prize for the most impressive robot design.
Samsung awards scholarships to excellent students
At the event, Samsung also awarded 60 scholarships to 60 outstanding students of the SIC 2023-2024 program. 6 students of Duy Tan University, namely Dam Gia Nhat Long, Nguyen Thi Ha Trang, Nguyen Van Thang, Nguyen Dang Thinh, Tran Viet Hoang Hao, and Truong Duc Quoc Huy, received Samsung Scholarships for their efforts and outstanding achievements in their studies.
The Samsung Innovation Campus project was officially launched globally in 2019. This is one of Samsung's typical social responsibility programs and has been expanded to 36 countries worldwide such as the US, Germany, Spain, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, etc.
