According to the report of Tien Thanh Commune People's Committee (Yen Thanh), Ban Vang reservoir with a capacity of nearly 1 million m3 of water was built over 40 years ago, mainly built with manual soil, so the dam body is weak.
During the flood season on September 15, 2021, the Ban Vang dam body was broken, causing flooding and damage to the downstream area. To temporarily fix the problem, Tien Thanh commune mobilized people and forces to reinforce the dam body by driving bamboo stakes and dropping stone gabions, but there are still many hidden risks of insecurity during the stormy season.

Faced with the above situation, combining capital sources, from July 2023, Yen Thanh district has deployed the repair and upgrade of Ban Vang reservoir. Specifically, the 376m long dike body was reconstructed, the upstream dam slope was reinforced with concrete and steel, the downstream slope was reinforced with grass planting, and the slope was drained with a system of diagonal ditches.
Along with that, the flood spillway entrance, water intake culvert under the dam, operation house, and the main canal after the water intake culvert with a length of 140m were repaired, etc. Up to this point, the project has reached over 20% of the volume; it is expected that by the end of December 2023, Ban Vang reservoir will be put into use.

Mr. Phan Van Vu - Chairman of Tien Thanh Commune People's Committee said: After being repaired and upgraded, Ban Vang reservoir will be put into use to irrigate over 70 hectares of rice and provide water for people's daily life, ensuring safety in the downstream area.
According to the report of Yen Thanh District People's Committee, from the beginning of 2023 to now, Yen Thanh District has repaired and upgraded 3 reservoirs in Ly Thanh, Bao Thanh, and Kim Thanh communes. The district is continuing to review weak reservoirs and has plans to upgrade them in the near future.
