Warning about drug-using drivers
On December 5, speaking with VietNamNet reporters, a representative of the Traffic Police Department (Traffic Police, Ministry of Public Security) said that the unit had handled 142 drivers using drugs while driving on National Highway 20 and National Highway 1A (through Lam Dong, Dong Nai provinces and Ho Chi Minh City).
This is the result of a plan to patrol, control and handle violations of traffic order and safety lasting from November 15-30 on the two National Highways mentioned above.
A representative of the Traffic Police Department informed that to implement the plan, the unit directly inspected and urged the police of Lam Dong, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City. Patrolling, controlling and handling violations were carried out 24/7. The police force also used the method of publicizing combined with disguise; mobile patrolling and controlling combined with stopping and controlling at one point so that the violating driver could not avoid.
Specifically, the authorities discovered 142 cases of drivers using drugs while driving. Of these, 32 truck drivers, 28 car drivers, 10 container truck drivers and 72 motorbike drivers were detected and prosecuted.
A representative of the Traffic Police Department assessed that in a short period of time, the authorities discovered many drivers using drugs while driving, which is the clearest warning about the risk of traffic safety. Especially for drivers driving passenger cars on long distances, carrying many people, if the driver uses drugs, the risk of traffic safety is even higher.
"Drivers of heavy trucks or passenger car drivers using drugs also pose a potential risk of causing catastrophic traffic accidents," a representative of the Traffic Police Department warned.
"I will try to reform myself to return to my wife and children."
After more than 2 years of serving his prison sentence at Phu Son 4 Prison (Department of Police Management of Prisons, Compulsory Education Facilities, and Reformatory Schools - Ministry of Public Security), prisoner D.D.Q. (from Thai Nguyen) still has not forgotten the serious accident he caused.
Prisoner D.D.Q. recounted that at around 4:50 a.m. on September 28, 2021, he was driving a truck carrying dirt when he collided with a car at the Cau Ca intersection in Kha Son commune (Phu Binh district, Thai Nguyen province). The strong collision caused part of the truck to fall and hit the front of the car. As a result, one person in the car died.
Prisoner Đ.Đ.Q. admitted that he had used drugs before driving, which affected his reflexes while driving. In addition, at the time of the accident, Mr. Q.'s vehicle was overloaded and traveling at high speed, so he could not handle the situation.
"The accident and the prison sentence are the price I had to pay for not being able to give up drugs. When my family found out I was using drugs, they tried to stop me. I was determined to give up but couldn't overcome it...", prisoner Đ.Đ.Q. said regretfully.
Prisoner Q. added that after 2 years of serving his sentence at the camp, he has realized many things. "I still have 2 more years to serve my sentence, I will try to reform myself well to return to my wife, children and start my life over.
I hope that drivers who are using drugs will quit soon because not only is it illegal and harmful to their health, but it also poses a potential risk of causing accidents. If an accident occurs, not only will your family be broken up, but the victim's family will also lose a husband and a father...", prisoner Q. regretted.
