In 2024, Masan continues to be honored to be named in the "TOP50 Outstanding Sustainable Development Enterprises of Vietnam 2024" (TOP 50 CSA) for its efforts and commitment to accompany the State on the path to achieving net emissions of "0". In line with the State's policy, within the framework of the 78th United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week at the United Nations headquarters in New York, USA, the Climate Ambition Summit was solemnly held last September with the participation of many senior leaders of countries and international organizations. At the event, Vietnam affirmed its determination to fulfill its commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and, with the full support of the international community, strive to rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 43.5% by 2030 and achieve a renewable energy ratio of more than 70% by 2050. In line with the State's policy, with its position as a leading consumer retail enterprise with a profound influence on more than 100 million Vietnamese people, Masan is committed to striving for the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Masan is deeply aware of its role and responsibility to the community and society and is constantly improving its standards of sustainable development.

Accordingly, in its latest annual report, the company highlighted its key priorities for 2024 with substantive activities for its roadmap to achieving net zero emissions. Specifically, Masan will have directions and guidelines for its business segments and subsidiaries to be responsible for implementing specific actions appropriate to the industry to manage climate risks and decarbonize.

Energy savings, renewable energy use As part of its efforts to achieve its 2030 decarbonization goal, Masan is focusing on using renewable fuel sources to power its operations. Currently, more than 50% of Masan and its subsidiaries' total energy consumption is from renewable sources such as biomass and biofuels. In 2023, Masan MEATLife (MML, a subsidiary of Masan) has successfully converted 1 of its 4 manufacturing plants to operate entirely on biomass energy from rice husks and sawdust waste. At the same time, MML's farm in Nghe An province utilizes pig manure to produce biogas, thereby reducing its dependence on external power sources. According to the company, although this initiative has contributed to energy savings, MML's goal is to operate this farm entirely on biomass or biogas. Continuing its energy efficiency efforts, Masan Consumer Holdings (MCH, a subsidiary of Masan) has successfully turned biomass into a major energy source for its business operations, with an average utilization rate of 87% across its various facilities. MCH has optimized its production processes, reducing energy consumption by utilizing heat loss during frying and sterilizing products, avoiding heat-changing processes, and applying energy-saving technologies. To ensure that this activity is carried out effectively and the risk of damage is reduced, the company trains its employees, focusing on the benefits of saving electricity through regular maintenance of machinery and equipment. At Masan High-Tech Materials (MHT), a mining business of Masan, MHT has successfully reduced the capacity of the water recovery pump at the Sulfur Tailings reservoir by adjusting the size of the pulley. This adjustment aims to save energy for pump operation by increasing the float height (RL) from 75m to 117m and reducing pressure requirements. MHT's efforts to reduce energy consumption have been recognized by achieving ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System Certification. The certification is valid for three years, starting from December 16, 2022 to December 15, 2025. This is also the driving force for Masan to implement energy saving programs in all of its production and business facilities. In the "TOP 50 Outstanding Sustainable Development Enterprises of Vietnam 2024" In order to contribute to promoting the trend of sustainable development to spread widely in the Vietnamese business community and society, Nhip Cau Dau Tu Magazine organized a vote for all 3 business groups: FDI enterprises, listed enterprises and small and medium enterprises. Enterprises selected for the ranking meet the criteria of: stable growth, environmental protection, corporate governance and social responsibility. The program's Judging Council includes leaders from Nhip Cau Dau Tu Magazine, HSBC Bank, PwC Vietnam, Institute for Circular Economy Development (ICED), Schneider Electric Vietnam, Talentnet, Mekong Capital. With a methodical sustainable development strategy, Masan Group has been in the "Top 50 Outstanding Sustainable Development Enterprises in Vietnam" Ranking for many consecutive years. In 2024, Masan Group was honored as the leading unit in the Listed Enterprise Sector, achieving all 3 categories: E - Sustainable Resource Management, S - Human Resource Strategy for Sustainable Development and G - Excellent Corporate Governance. "As a leading enterprise in the consumer retail sector with products and services for 100 million Vietnamese consumers and a trusted partner of suppliers, we see the important role and influence of the group in upgrading the food value chain and contributing to Vietnam's Net Zero commitment by 2050. This requires a different way of thinking about the future business model, in which sustainable development is not only about risk management but also an opportunity to make a difference for customers, partners and the community. "Doing Well By Doing Good - That is the path we take.", Mr. Le Ba Nam Anh - Senior Director of Capital Markets & Strategic Initiatives, Member of the ESG Committee of Masan Group shared at the event. Before the concept of ESG was mentioned frequently in Vietnam, Masan was aware of and focused on sustainable development activities. With over 28 years of experience serving consumers and business activities that have a certain impact on more than 100 million Vietnamese people, Masan understands that ESG is an indispensable part of all business segments of the enterprise. Masan wishes to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of Vietnam, while bringing long-term value to stakeholders.
