On the afternoon of March 14, the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City held a press conference to inform about the issue of forgery, posting of false information related to activities, false or fake images of Fahasa such as: recruitment, sales, closure, cessation of operations... spreading on social networks.
As reported by SGGP Newspaper, in the past few days, information has appeared online related to Ho Chi Minh City Book Distribution Joint Stock Company (Fahasa) with advertisements of “bankruptcy, closure, cessation of operations, liquidation of all bookstores” with background images of Fahasa bookstores. Not only Fahasa but Ho Chi Minh City Book Street also encountered a similar situation when some Facebook accounts appeared to run advertisements with images of Ho Chi Minh City Book Street, revolving around the closure of stores due to reduced sales, and giving away books and financial stocks to everyone.
At a press conference on the afternoon of March 14, Mr. Trinh Huu Anh, Head of the Publishing, Printing and Distribution Department, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications, said that the Department had checked and confirmed that the above information was completely false. These were accounts impersonating Fahasa. At the same time, using the image of Ho Chi Minh City Book Street to illustrate an article with false information is a violation of the law.
“This is an act of providing and sharing fake information, false information, distorting, slandering, insulting the honor and dignity of others on social networks, affecting the reputation of agencies, organizations, honor and dignity of individuals; violating prohibited acts on network security as prescribed in Point d, Clause 1, Article 8 of the 2018 Law on Network Security: False information causing confusion among the people, causing damage to socio-economic activities, causing difficulties for the activities of state agencies or public servants, infringing upon the rights and legitimate interests of other agencies, organizations and individuals. And specifically here, it affects the image and reputation of Fahasa and Ho Chi Minh City Book Street”, said Mr. Trinh Huu Anh.
In the coming time, the Department of Information and Communications will continue to promote the use of Social Beat Social Network Listening software to synthesize accounts that provide and share fake information, false information, distorted information, slander, and insult the honor and dignity of others on social networks, affecting the reputation of agencies, organizations, and the honor and dignity of individuals; providing and sharing fabricated information, causing confusion among the people.
Along with that, the Department will continue to coordinate with relevant authorities to continue monitoring, identifying subjects committing the above acts and resolutely handling them according to the provisions of law.
“The Department of Information and Communications calls on every social network user to be vigilant, improve their skills in recognizing fake news and false information; and absolutely not let false information affect their family and themselves,” Mr. Trinh Huu Anh added.
According to Mr. Trinh Huu Anh, the Department of Information and Communications sympathizes with publishing units, and hopes that the units can rest assured because the department will always accompany them in times like the present to protect the interests of publishing businesses.
“In the context of the difficult economic situation, not only the publishing industry, destructive information and images have a great impact and cause misunderstanding among people and readers when accessing information related to publishing units,” said Mr. Trinh Huu Anh.
