Dak Lak Department of Information and Communications, formerly the Department of Posts and Telecommunications, was established on December 28, 2004 under Decision No. 2515/QD-UBND of the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee. On March 25, 2008, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 759/QD-UBND to change its name to the Department of Information and Communications.

In the early days of its establishment, the Department's organizational structure had 5 functional departments with 7 civil servants, public employees, and workers. Up to now, the Department has 5 functional departments and 1 affiliated public service unit (Center for Monitoring and Operation of Smart Cities) with 51 civil servants, public employees, and workers, of which 88.24% have a university degree or higher. The Party Committee currently has 37 Party members, and has been a Clean and Strong Party Committee for 20 consecutive years.
In recent years, the state management of press, publishing, printing, distribution, grassroots information, and foreign information has been implemented increasingly closely and effectively. Press agencies have constantly innovated, making the most of digital technology platforms, improving operational efficiency, creating many valuable, high-quality press works, especially works serving the key political tasks of the homeland and the country. Foreign information and grassroots information activities have been deployed regularly and promptly, fully conveying information to people in villages, hamlets, and residential areas; promoting the image of the province and the country to international friends, contributing to improving the effectiveness of foreign affairs and investment promotion of the province.

The application, development of IT and digital transformation continue to achieve many achievements, information safety and security are ensured. State management of Posts and Telecommunications, Internet, Broadcasting and Radio Frequency has made significant progress, promoting the role in building Digital Government, Digital Economy and Digital Society. Up to now, Dak Lak has 116.05 mobile subscribers/100 people; Smartphone subscribers: 82.8%; Fixed broadband internet subscribers: 22.86 subscribers/100 people; The BTS station system currently has more than 2,648 BTS stations in the province with 13 inter-provincial fiber optic cable lines with a total length of over 1,505 km, more than 2,752 intra-provincial lines with a total length of over 263,014 km extending to commune and village centers, creating an information security loop for the system. Postal delivery has many innovations, the public postal network is maintained and widely developed towards improving service quality, combining the provision of public services with commercial services.
The Information and Communications Technology Center was established in 2007, and in 2020 it was reorganized and established the Dak Lak Smart City Monitoring and Operation Center in Decision No. 2344/QD-UBND dated September 30, 2020 of the Provincial People's Committee. After 17 years of development, the Center has continuously innovated to improve the quality of its career activities, providing services to meet the requirements of agencies, departments, and units inside and outside the province. The Center has played an important role in organizing the career activities of the industry, assisting the State management work of the Department.
With the achieved results, the collective of Dak Lak Department of Information and Communications has received noble awards from the Party and State such as: Third-class Labor Medal in 2014; Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister in 2011; many Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Information and Communications, Provincial People's Committee; for many consecutive years, the Ministry of Information and Communications and Provincial People's Committee awarded the Excellent Emulation Flag...

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Ha - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged and highly appreciated the achievements of the Department of Information and Communications over 20 years of establishment and development, actively contributing to the cause of building and developing the province. These results are not only the result of the efforts and creativity of the collective leadership and cadres, civil servants and public employees of the Department, but also a testament to the solidarity, consensus, and will to overcome all difficulties and challenges. The development of the Department of Information and Communications does not stop at improving the quality of professional work, but is also demonstrated through promoting administrative reform, applying information technology and strengthening coordination with other agencies and units to create synchronization and efficiency in state management.
