Number of talented candidates admitted to Hanoi University of Science and Technology increased to a record high

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Duy Hai, Head of Admissions and Career Guidance Department, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the number of candidates registering for talent selection based on competency profile combined with interview (category 1.3) this year is 4,566 candidates, of which 4,545 are eligible to participate.

With this method, the candidate's admission score includes the total score of the capacity profile and interview score, the standard score is taken from top to bottom until the quota registered by the school is met.

Candidates admitted under category 1.3 will also have to meet the high school graduation requirements and register their admitted wish as their first wish on the Ministry of Education and Training's admission system.

Among the candidates participating in the admission process by this method, more than 250 applications were directly admitted according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training (national and international awards). The number of students registering with international certificates (SAT, ACT, A-level, AP, IB) was nearly 930. The rest were admitted based on their ability profile combined with interviews.

The School of Information and Communications Technology and the School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering have the largest number of candidates, accounting for nearly 55%. The "hot" majors are Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Control Engineering and Automation, Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering, and Microelectronics Engineering and Nanotechnology.

Using the combination of the capacity profile and interview, candidates need to have an average score of 8 or higher in all subjects (except Physical Education and National Defense and Security Education) each year and meet at least one of the following conditions: Being selected for the national excellent student or science and technology competition; having provincial awards in Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, IT, Foreign Language; participating in the Road to Olympia program for a month or more; being a specialized student.

There are more than 250 applications that are directly admitted according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training thanks to winning national and international awards.

In addition, candidates with IELTS certificate 6.0 or higher or equivalent can register for admission to English Language, Economics - Management, Educational Technology, and Educational Management.

Due to the record high number of applications this year, Hanoi University of Science and Technology organized a training session on admissions, ensuring 100% of lecturers in the interview board participated.

"To ensure fairness and objectivity of the 1.3 talent selection method, members of the councils are randomly assigned. Each council has 3 teachers participating. The teachers participating in the interviews are all lecturers with experience in interviewing for foreign scholarships, or participating in admission interviews for many years. The selection method based on capacity records combined with interviews is currently only available at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, similar to the method of many top universities in the world" - Associate Professor - Dr. Vu Duy Hai said.

After the interview, from May 27 to 31, candidates can change their wishes. The school will announce the results of the talent selection by June 15 at the latest.

In 2024, Hanoi University of Science and Technology plans to enroll 9,260 students, an increase of more than 1,000 compared to last year. Of which, the talent selection method accounts for 20% of the total enrollment target, equivalent to about 1,850 successful candidates. Since applying this selection method in 2021, this is the year with the highest number of applications, 1.9 times higher than in 2023.
