VnExpressVnExpress06/03/2024

The organization of secondary school in Hanoi - Amsterdam specialized school is based on the Capital Law, so the Department of Education and Training will advise to continue enrolling in this system.

The Department's leaders announced the above information on March 6. Specifically, the Department proposed a plan to maintain stable enrollment in grade 6 of Hanoi - Amsterdam Specialized School in the 2024-2025 school year. In addition, to prevent this system from operating illegally, the Department will advise the city to request a special mechanism.

According to the 2019 Education Law, specialized schools are only established at the high school level, there are no middle schools within specialized schools.

The representative of the Department said that the organization of the high-quality secondary school system at Amsterdam school is carried out according to the Capital Law. The law allows the city to build a number of high-quality preschool and general education facilities with criteria on facilities, teaching staff, programs, teaching methods and educational services. This is the only locality in the country that has the legal basis to implement the high-quality school model.

In 2009, the City People's Committee also allowed a pilot program to train high-level secondary school students, creating a source for specialized students at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

In addition, the Department assessed that in nearly 30 years since its establishment, Ams2 has had good training quality, creating a source of excellent students for specialized high schools. Many Ams2 students have achieved excellent results in domestic and international exams.

At the end of January, Hanoi sent a document to the Ministry of Education and Training regarding enrollment in grade 6 at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted for the next school year.

In response, the Ministry requested the city to direct the enrollment of students into specialized high schools in accordance with regulations, specifically according to the 2019 Education Law. In the regulations on the operation of specialized high schools in May 2023, the Ministry also requested "not to organize non-specialized classes in specialized schools" from this year.

The secondary school system of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted was established in 1992. Each year, Ams2 recruits 200 students, receiving about 3,000-5,000 applications. Due to the large number of applications, the school sets many criteria for academic records for the first round of admission. Students must achieve 10 points in most subjects in 5 years of primary school to be able to enter the entrance exam round.

Besides Ams school, the whole country currently has only Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City with a secondary school system.
