BIDV leads in total assets
At the end of December 2023, 28 banks announced their fourth quarter financial reports with total assets reaching nearly 14.8 million billion VND, an increase of 14.8% compared to the end of 2022.
If in the first 9 months of 2023, up to 4 banks Vietcombank , VietABank, Kienlongbank and PGBank witnessed a decrease in total assets. By the end of 2023, most banks recorded total asset growth ranging from 5% - 20%.
At the end of 2023, BIDV continued to maintain its leading position in total assets with VND 2.13 million billion, up 0.6% compared to the beginning of the year. Second place belonged to Vietinbank with more than VND 2 million billion, up 12.4%. Vietcombank ranked third with total assets of VND 1.84 million billion, up 1.4% compared to 2022.
In the group of joint stock banks, MB is firmly in 4th place with total assets increasing by 29.7% compared to the beginning of the period, reaching 944,950 billion VND. Following closely behind MB is Techcombank with total assets increasing by 20% compared to the beginning of the year, reaching 849,482 billion VND.
During the year, despite recording a 29.6% increase in total assets to VND817,770 billion, the second highest in the industry, VPBank still sadly ranked 6th.
The remaining banks in the top 10 are ACB with total assets of VND 718,795 billion; Sacombank with VND 674,390 billion in total assets, SHB with more than VND 630,435 billion and finally HDBank with total assets of VND 602,315 billion.
Although closing the top 10, HDBank is the bank that recorded the highest asset growth in the industry at 44.7%.
VPBank's charter capital leads the system
In 2023, banks are continuously racing to increase their charter capital. In particular, the group of 4 state-owned banks will continue to have fluctuations in charter capital when the State Bank approved VietinBank to increase its charter capital by nearly VND 5,643 billion, according to the issuance plan with dividend coupons.
As a result, at the end of the year, Vietinbank's charter capital was VND53,699 billion, the third highest in the industry. BIDV also issued a maximum of nearly 641.93 million shares to pay dividends, increasing its charter capital from over VND50,585 billion to over VND57,004.5 billion, becoming the bank with the second highest charter capital.
For Vietcombank, after the bank issued nearly 857 million shares to pay dividends, Vietcombank's charter capital reached more than VND55,890 billion, ranking 4th in the top 10 charter capitals.
Notably, the leading bank in terms of charter capital in the entire industry is a bank outside the Big 4 group. At the end of 2023, VPBank was the bank with the highest charter capital, reaching VND 73,799 billion, far ahead of the remaining banks in the system.
Last year, VPBank completed the sale of 15% of its equity to SMBC. At the same time, the bank paid stock dividends to increase its capital to VND73,339 billion.
For joint stock commercial banks, the State Bank has issued a document approving the increase of charter capital for 21 banks, in which the increase of charter capital of these banks is mainly from equity capital.
In 2023, MB issued more than 680 million common shares to pay dividends to existing shareholders at a rate of 15%, increasing charter capital by VND 6,800 billion, from VND 45,340 billion to VND 52,141 billion. Becoming the bank with the 5th highest charter capital in the system.
The remaining 5 banks in the top include SHB with charter capital of 36,194 billion VND; Techcombank 35,225 billion VND, ACB with charter capital of 33,774 billion VND, HDBank 29,076 billion VND and finally LPBank with charter capital of 25,576 billion VND .
