Meat prices at the market increased |
On March 12, the price of live pigs in the Northern region turned to decrease, in which, provinces such as Bac Giang, Nam Dinh, Thai Nguyen, Thai Binh and Hanoi recorded the adjusted price of 77,000 VND/kg, 1,000 VND/kg lower than the previous day.
Currently, this area records transaction prices fluctuating between 76,000 - 77,000 VND/kg, of which the lowest level of 76,000 VND/kg is recorded in Lao Cai, Yen Bai and Ninh Binh.
Pig prices in the Central Highlands remain stable, with the highest being VND82,000/kg. Meanwhile, the South continues to “increase rapidly”.
Binh Duong and Ca Mau provinces have both adjusted prices to 82,000 VND/kg, while Dong Thap reached 81,000 VND/kg.
Currently, the purchase price of live pigs in the South fluctuates between 80,000 - 83,000 VND/kg. Dong Nai - the livestock capital of the country continues to be the locality holding the record for live pig prices today (83,000 VND/kg).
Along with the increase in live hog prices, pork prices in Hanoi and the northern provinces have also increased sharply. Pork belly and shoulder are currently priced at 160,000-165,000 VND/kg; loin ribs are priced at 165,000 VND/kg. This price has increased by about 15,000 VND/kg compared to the end of February.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hoang (a trader at My Dinh market) said: "Meat prices have increased sharply, so sales are slow, many days there are many unsold items. People buy chicken and fish instead because the prices of these items are stable."
Not only in markets, some supermarkets are also preparing to increase pork prices. A representative of a large supermarket chain said that the supermarket has received a request to increase prices from suppliers. However, the expected increase is less than 4%. "This is an increase in line with market developments," said a representative of this retail chain.
In the Southern region, due to the high price of live pigs, maintaining stable pork prices as they are now could cause the company to incur losses, so Vissan Company - a unit participating in the pork price stabilization program in Ho Chi Minh City - sent a request to the two Departments of Finance and Industry and Trade to adjust pork prices from March 17. Vissan proposed that the prices of stabilized pork products increase by 6-7%.
Also in this area, Ha Hien Fresh Food Company also increased the prices of many products. Accordingly, the price of pork at Ha Hien is fluctuating from 85,000 - 191,000 VND/kg, a significant increase compared to before.
In contrast, the price of Meat Deli chilled pork on the website winmart.vn continued to be quiet on the morning of March 12. Currently, the products are listed at around 119,922 - 163,122 VND/kg and are discounted by 20% under the preferential program for WinMart members.
