Vietnam ranks 6th among countries with the highest market share of pork production in the world, accounting for 2.4% (2021), 2.5% (2022) and 3% (2023) of total global pork production.
The above data was cited by the Department of Animal Husbandry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) from the US Department of Agriculture for the years 2021, 2022 and 2023.
However, Vietnam's pig farming is facing many challenges, including dangerous infectious diseases in pigs, especially African swine fever.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued and advised the Government to issue many documents directing and providing technical guidance to prevent and control this disease.
Mr. Nguyen Van Long, Director of the Department of Animal Health, said that to date, Vietnam has used 5.9 million doses of African swine fever vaccine. In localities that had very serious epidemics such as Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Ninh..., the epidemic was well controlled after 1-2 months of using the vaccine.
