On the afternoon of August 15, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training held a conference to summarize the 2023-2024 school year and deploy tasks for the 2024-2025 school year at the primary level. The conference was connected online to 30 locations with nearly 1,400 teachers in attendance.
In the 2023-2024 school year, Hanoi's primary school system will increase by 3 schools and 188 classrooms. The city has a total of 829 schools, over 20,700 classes, and approximately 778,000 students. With nearly 22,000 classrooms, the average primary school class size is 37.5 students per class, down from the previous school year.
As the fourth year of implementing the 2018 General Education Program at the primary level, and the second year of implementing compulsory teaching of English, information technology, and technology, primary schools in Hanoi are equipped with basic facilities to meet the teaching and learning requirements of the new program.
The Department of Education and Training assessed that last school year, the quality of primary school teaching continued to have positive changes. There were no incidents causing unsafety or danger to students in schools. The work of checking to ensure school safety, disease prevention, and food hygiene and safety was focused on.
The city maintained the results of 30/30 districts, towns and 100% of communes, wards and towns meeting the standards of universal primary education level 3. The whole city mobilized 161,641 6-year-old children to attend class, reaching 100% of students of the age group; 98.42% of 11-year-old students completed the primary school program.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Hanoi's primary education sector will focus on implementing the general education program; planning the development of the school network, consolidating and improving the quality of universal education and implementing equity in access to education.
Primary schools also give special priority to new content, including organizing the teaching of foreign languages 1 and information technology according to the 2018 Primary Education Program and digital citizenship skills education; officially implementing electronic transcripts; promoting STEM education activities in schools, etc.
Emphasizing that primary education is the foundation level of education, Director of the Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong requested schools to implement solutions to ensure school safety; maintain environmental sanitation; proactively develop and implement plans to ensure physical and mental health for students.
