On October 4, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a document requesting the Ho Chi Minh City Food Safety Management Board to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Health and related units to continue monitoring, urgently investigating, assessing the causes of food poisoning, and updating the developments of food poisoning cases occurring in Thu Duc City.

At the same time, focus on measures to prevent and avoid similar food poisoning incidents throughout the city. The Ho Chi Minh City Food Safety Management Board needs to increase the development of specific, easy-to-understand analytical articles on food poisoning prevention and control to promote information dissemination to the people, raising awareness of responsibility in food production, trading and use.

In addition, localities need to strengthen inspection and supervision to strictly manage food safety, promptly detect and strictly handle food safety violations.

The directive of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee was issued after the food poisoning incident at Palm Heights apartment building, An Phu Ward, Thu Duc City, which resulted in the death of a 6-year-old girl on October 1. After that, hospitals continued to record many more people living in the above apartment building being hospitalized due to abdominal pain, fever, vomiting, and diarrhea many times.

As of October 4, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health determined that 17 people were being treated at 4 hospitals in the area related to the food poisoning incident.

Also this morning, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health held a meeting with a professional council, and concluded that this was a case of mass food poisoning, with more complicated developments and harder to recognize than previous cases; the high possibility of food poisoning was caused by cream puffs.

Regarding the cause of the infection, experts said that it is necessary to wait for the results of bacterial isolation processed by the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Public Health.
