UNICAP Joint Stock Company has just reported on the day it became a group of investors holding 5% of shares at Vietnam International Commercial Joint Stock Bank (VIB).
Accordingly, in the session on September 24, it purchased nearly 66.8 million VIB shares, equivalent to 2.241% of the bank's capital. Thereby, this organization officially increased its ownership ratio at VIB from 5.229% to 7.47%, becoming a major shareholder at the bank.
According to the announcement, UNICAP previously did not own shares at VIB. However, two individuals related to this organization include Ms. Nguyen Thuy Nga, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors and General Director, holding more than 70 million shares, equivalent to 2.351% of capital, and Ms. Tong Ngoc My Tram, member of the Board of Directors, holding nearly 98 million shares, equivalent to 3.288% of capital at VIB.
Based on the closing price of VIB shares on September 24, which was VND19,100, it is estimated that UNICAP had to spend about VND1,276 billion to increase its ownership ratio at VIB.

Notably, according to the National Business Registration Portal, UNICAP JSC was established on September 4, 2024, which is just 1 month ago.
The company's head office is located at Me Linh Point Building, No. 2 Ngo Duc Ke Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
The company's main business is food wholesale. Specifically, it exercises the right to import and export, distribute and trade goods in accordance with the provisions of Vietnamese law and international treaties to which Vietnam is a member.
The company has a charter capital of 100 billion VND. The founding shareholders include Mr. Dang Khac Cuong, who holds 100,000 shares, worth 1 billion VND, accounting for 1% of capital.
According to research, Mr. Dang Khac Cuong is currently a major shareholder at KAFI Securities. The current Chairman of KAFI Securities is Mr. Le Quang Trung, who used to hold the position of Deputy General Director at VIB.
Two other individuals are founding shareholders of UNICAP, including Ms. Nguyen Thuy Nga and Ms. Tong Ngoc My Tram, both own more than 4.95 million shares, worth VND49.5 billion, contributing 49.5% of the capital. Ms. Nguyen Thuy Nga, born in 1978, is the legal representative of this company.
This is not the first time a newly established enterprise has become a major shareholder at VIB.
Previously, during the period from July 21 to August 20, 2023, Funderra JSC, an organization related to Mr. Dang Khac Vy - Chairman of VIB's Board of Directors, registered to buy 124.7 million VIB shares for investment.
On August 21, VIB announced the transaction results, Funderra officially holds 118.7 million shares, equivalent to 4.68% of the bank's capital.
Estimated at the market price at that time of 19,850 VND/share, this company spent about 2,356 billion VND to become a shareholder of the bank.
At that time, Funderra JSC was only a few days old. Specifically, this enterprise was established on July 14, 2023, with a charter capital of VND 2,500 billion, with the General Director and legal representative being Mr. Nguyen Van Phong.
Main business is real estate business, factory leasing, leasing, operating, managing offices, stores, shopping centers, exhibition areas...
According to the National Business Registration Portal, Funderra's founding shareholders include three people, of whom Mr. Dang Khac Vy contributed nearly VND2,000 billion, equivalent to 80%, of the capital. Mr. Nguyen Van Phong owns 1,000 shares and Ms. Tran Thi Thao Hien contributed VND500 billion, equivalent to the remaining 20% of the capital.
At the same time as UNICAP’s announcement, VIB also released information about changes in ownership of major shareholders, investors holding 5% or more of the bank’s shares. Accordingly, the largest shareholder at the bank, Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), sold 148 million shares in the session on September 26, reducing its ownership ratio to 440.2 million shares, equivalent to 14.78% of VIB’s capital.
