Reviewing preparations for the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day

Speaking at the working session, Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat, Head of the Steering Committee Luong Cuong stated that the Central Propaganda Department, as the standing agency of the Steering Committee, has issued Instruction No. 69-HD/BTGTW, dated September 20, 2022 on organizing activities to celebrate major holidays and important historical events in the 3 years 2023 - 2025. During these 3 years, the country has many major holidays, anniversaries of many important historical events such as the founding day, traditional day of central departments, ministries, branches, unions, economic organizations, people's armed forces units; founding day, re-establishment day, liberation day of provinces and centrally-run cities and the 100th and over 100th anniversaries of birth of key leaders and exemplary predecessors of the Party. Of which, there are 3 very big events: The 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory (already organized); the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025); the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

The Standing Secretariat assessed that recently, the Central Steering Committee successfully organized 5 major activities, especially the 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory with a series of nearly 70 related activities, leaving a very deep impression on the people at home and international friends. The whole country turned to Dien Bien Phu with pride and deep gratitude. That shows that the propaganda work and the organization of commemorative activities have achieved remarkable results, creating strong effects and spread, turning the event into a widespread political activity throughout the Party and the whole society.

In addition to the successes and very good results in the 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu victory, according to the Standing Secretariat, through the preliminary summary, there are still some limitations and shortcomings. From the practice of organizing the celebrations of major holidays and anniversaries in the past, the Standing Secretariat said that the Central Steering Committee has drawn successful lessons, good experiences, good practices, as well as pointed out and had measures to overcome the limitations to continue to lead, direct, organize, and successfully organize major events of the country. In particular, Standing Secretariat Luong Cuong emphasized the direction work, if the Steering Committee has close instructions, prepares projects and plans early and thoroughly, has smooth and close coordination between departments, ministries, branches with the host unit and with coordinating units, the event will be successful, avoid confusion, and minimize unwanted problems that may occur.

The Standing Secretariat said that in 2024, there will be 7 major commemorative events, of which 5 have been completed and 2 remain: the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024); the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024). Currently, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense and Hanoi City are urgently preparing for this content.

In 2025, according to the conclusion of the Secretariat, the country will have 5 major commemorative events, including the 95th anniversary of the Party's founding (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2025); the 135th anniversary of the birth of beloved Uncle Ho (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025); the 80th anniversary of the tradition of the Vietnam People's Public Security (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the 20th anniversary of the National Day for National Security Protection (August 19, 2005 - August 19, 2025); especially the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

To proactively and well prepare conditions for the successful organization of important national events, the Standing Secretariat proposed that at the working session, the Steering Committee review the preparation work, according to the assignment, concretize the Conclusion of the Secretariat, Instruction No. 69; point out difficulties, obstacles, and shortcomings in the implementation process.

At the meeting, delegates listened to the representative of the Central Propaganda Department report on the implementation of activities to celebrate major holidays and important historical events of the country in the three years 2023 - 2025. Leaders of Ho Chi Minh City and the Central Military Commission, Ministry of National Defense reported on preparations to celebrate major holidays according to assigned authority, including preparations for the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification.

Reporting on preparations for the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day, Mr. Phan Van Mai, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, said that the City has issued directives and documents to prepare activities leading up to the celebration. Up to now, the City has synchronously deployed activities and emulation movements leading up to the celebration.

According to Mr. Phan Van Mai, gratitude activities are given great attention, directing the entire political system together with the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to review and implement policies. Determined not to miss any cases that benefit from the policy.

Regarding the Anniversary, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that there will be a parade and march during the Anniversary, in which the parade includes 34 groups of armed forces; the parade has 11 groups. The total number of people participating in the parade and march is 11,220 people. Along with that, there will be the organization of cultural, artistic and sports activities; launching patriotic emulation movements at all levels and sectors to celebrate the anniversary associated with the implementation of targets and plans.

Concluding the working session, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Permanent Deputy Head of the Steering Committee Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized that from now until the organization of activities to celebrate major national holidays in the last 6 months of 2024, early 2025 and the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day is not long, while the workload is very high. Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia requested that members of the Steering Committee, localities, departments, ministries and related branches need to focus on leadership, direction, drastic, synchronous, and closely coordinate to perform well the assigned functions and tasks.

Regarding the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized that, in addition to the purpose of propagating and educating extensively about the glorious history of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the nation and the heroic Vietnam People's Army, and strengthening people's trust in the Party and the State, the good organization of commemorative activities also contributes to creating a favorable socio-political atmosphere, motivating the entire Party, the entire army, and the entire people to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, and well organize Party Congresses at all levels, towards the 14th National Party Congress. Therefore, the Politburo and the Secretariat have set very high requirements for the organization of commemorative activities, focusing on major activities at the Central level, which must have both a sense of gratitude and political-ideological propaganda and education value, and must be new and attractive but also ensure practicality, safety, economy, and people-oriented so that people can enjoy them.

From there, the Steering Committee requested Ho Chi Minh City to urgently develop and complete the overall project of commemorative activities, to be completed in August. Agencies and units assigned to preside over and coordinate such as the Central Propaganda Department, Government Office, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism... focus on preparing to organize commemorative activities well, focusing on the Central level.
