On February 22, Dong Thap province held a conference to announce the Prime Minister's Decision on approving the Dong Thap Provincial Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai attended and gave a speech. Also attending were leaders of central ministries, leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho City and provinces in the Mekong Delta.

Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee Pham Thien Nghia said that Dong Thap Provincial Planning has chosen to develop 3 pillars in harmony: Economy - Society - Environment. The provincial planning has shaped the development space through the structure: 4 socio-economic regions, 3 economic corridors, 4 central cities. This is considered a balanced development structure, linking and supporting each other between the central and border areas, between urban and rural areas, taking agricultural economy as the driving force to create a strong development foundation.
Dong Thap is a province located in the key food production area of the country. The land of the Red Lotus ranks 3rd in the country in terms of total rice output with 3.3 million tons/year, after Kien Giang 4.3 million tons/year, An Giang 4.1 million tons/year; ranks 4th in the country in seafood export with a total turnover of about 900 million USD, of which tra fish alone ranks first in the country in terms of export output.
Dong Thap is the center of economic exchange, the center of eco-tourism of the Mekong Delta and the whole country. This is also a land rich in historical and revolutionary traditions. Dong Thap people are gentle, hospitable, affectionate, love their homeland and country, and have the will to overcome difficulties and rise up. The province has a strategic position with nearly 50 km of border, 2 international border gates with Cambodia, located on convenient traffic routes connecting with Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho City and neighboring provinces; is a famous place with many historical sites, scenic spots, and festivals with unique and distinct features of the Mekong Delta river region.
In 2023, Dong Thap province's production and business activities have recovered and had positive changes. Although economic growth and resource mobilization have not met expectations, the economic scale has grown strongly, reaching over 110,000 billion VND, ranking 6th in the Mekong Delta region. GRDP per capita reached nearly 69 million VND, an increase of 12.16% compared to 2022. This is a high level in the Mekong Delta region.
On behalf of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai acknowledged, highly appreciated and warmly commended the outstanding achievements that the Party Committee, government, army and people of Dong Thap province have achieved in recent times.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai, planning plays an extremely important role. Planning determines vision, models, scenarios, development plans and spatial organization of development. Planning also creates new opportunities, production capacity and value for each country, region and locality during the planning period.
The conference to announce the Dong Thap Provincial Planning is a very important event for domestic and foreign partners and investors to have a more comprehensive, in-depth, and overall view of the potential, advantages, and development expectations of Dong Thap province, as well as to contribute and propose recommendations to help Dong Thap province develop in the future.
“The planning will open up new opportunities and development space for Dong Thap province; it is expected to create a new impetus for Dong Thap to develop breakthroughs and create miracles in socio-economic development with the following pillars: Developing high-tech processing industry; renewable energy; Developing a synchronous and effective transport network, infrastructure of industrial parks and border economic zones; Developing sustainable organic agriculture; High-tech aquaculture associated with processing industry to increase product value; Developing tourism associated with historical traditions, cultural identity, suitable for natural conditions, and unique and special tourism products”, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai emphasized.

The provincial planning has identified development goals until 2030: Dong Thap is a province with a fairly developed level, in the leading group in digital transformation, one of the agricultural production and agricultural processing centers of the Mekong Delta; has a synchronous infrastructure system, modern urban areas, rural areas rich in identity, friendly and attractive tourism; comprehensively develops cultural, social and human fields; maintains the leading position in the country in the following indicators: administrative reform, governance and public administration efficiency, provincial competitiveness. National defense, security and social order and safety are ensured; international cooperation and integration are enhanced. People have a prosperous, civilized and happy life.
The Deputy Prime Minister requested Dong Thap province to well implement 6 key tasks and solutions. The Party Committee and authorities at all levels of Dong Thap province focus on leading and directing the implementation of the Dong Thap Provincial Planning in conjunction with the implementation of the Central Resolutions, the National Assembly Resolutions, the Government Resolutions; especially Resolution No. 13 of the Politburo. Dong Thap strengthens cooperation and development links with provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai affirmed that the Government and central ministries and branches always create favorable conditions and accompany the government and people of Dong Thap province. The conference to announce the Dong Thap Provincial Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, is a premise and an important milestone in the next stage of Dong Thap's development.
On the same morning, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai and the Government delegation visited the tomb of Vice President Nguyen Sinh Sac - father of President Ho Chi Minh at Nguyen Sinh Sac Relic Site (Cao Lanh City).
