Due to time zone differences around the world, New Year's Eve 2024 will not take place at the same time everywhere around the world.
Fireworks exploding over Sydney Harbor have long been a symbol of the start of the new year and have attracted the attention of many people around the world. However, Oceania will be the first region in the world to welcome the new year. Specifically, the Date and Time website notes that the Pacific island nation of Kirbati will be the first place in the world to welcome the new year 2024.
Kiribati is an island nation of the Republic of Kiribati, also known as Christmas Island, and is the first place to welcome the new year 2024 as it is located in the world's furthest time zone, 19 hours ahead of New York City, USA. The island nation has a total of 32 atolls and one high coral island, spread over an area of about 3.5 million km2, bordering the International Date Line to the east.
Kiribati is one of the most unique countries in the world and with around 5,000 visitors a year, it is also one of the least visited.
This Pacific island nation welcomes the New Year at 10:00 a.m. on December 31 Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), equivalent to 5:00 p.m. on December 31 in Vietnam.
Tonga and the island nation of Samoa (Western Samoa) will also celebrate the new year at the same time as Kiritimati island.
Fifteen minutes later, at 5:15 p.m. Vietnam time, Chatham Island, New Zealand, entered the New Year's Eve 2024.
At 7 p.m. Vietnam time, the island nation of Fiji in Oceania and a small part of the Russian Far East will welcome the new year 2024. Next, at 8 p.m. on December 31, Vietnam time, most of Australia will officially reach 0 o'clock. Specifically, in Australia, the eastern cities of Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra will be the first places to welcome 2024 in this country.
