Quang Yen: Preserving and promoting the value of relics associated with tourism development

Over the years, Quang Yen Town has always focused on preserving and promoting the value of historical relics in the area, in order to maximize the exploitation of this valuable resource for tourism development.

Bach Dang National Monument Management Board cooperated with Quang Yen Town Youth Union to install QR codes at the monument.

Quang Yen has 219 historical and cultural relics, including the Bach Dang Victory Historical Relic Site with 11 relic sites and ranked as Special National Relics, 34 relics ranked at the national level, 15 relics ranked at the provincial level, 3 festivals recognized as National Intangible Cultural Heritage (Tien Cong festival, Bach Dang traditional festival, Xuong Dong festival). In addition, Quang Yen also has regional-scale festivals such as the fishing festival, the family feast of 23 Tien Cong family temples along with 70 festivals at other family temples bearing the cultural characteristics of the residents of the Northern Delta. Along with that, many architectural works of offices, houses, roads, and sewers from the French colonial period are still intact, creating ancient neighborhoods such as Ngo Quyen, Tran Hung Dao, Nguyen Du streets...

Mr. Ngo Dinh Dung, Head of the Town's Department of Culture and Information, said: Quang Yen has completed the inventory of historical and cultural relics in the area and established records of artifacts and management records for 219 relics. Relics ranked at special national, national and provincial levels have all been mapped for protection and have their land boundaries determined and protected by markers. 92/219 relics have been granted land use right certificates; the remaining relics are in the process of being measured, marked and their boundaries determined. The tourist routes and spots associated with the relics are zoned and have their land boundaries determined according to regulations and fully updated in the town's master plan until 2040.

The town is interested in investing in the restoration and embellishment of relics with a total budget of nearly 260 billion VND from the provincial and local budgets. At the same time, it mobilizes social resources to invest in the restoration and embellishment of relics with a total approved budget of 564 billion VND, of which 460 billion VND has been deployed. From these budgets, the relic cluster of temples, Chanh pagoda, Giua Dong pagoda, Hang pagoda, Quynh Bieu pagoda has been restored; the relic of Yen Lap communal house, Nghe La relic, Quan Dai temple relic has been restored; and periodic degradation prevention has been carried out at 22 Tien Cong family churches...

Up to now, Quang Yen has built 3 routes and 11 tourist destinations, mainly associated with historical relics and built unique tourism products, based on the town's advantages, such as spiritual tourism products at Bach Dang National Special Historical Relic Site; community experience tourism at Coc communal house associated with the "Coc Coc Ha Nam Island" Going-to-the-Paddy Festival; experience tourism visiting Hung Hoc fishing gear weaving village...

Quang Yen has invested in making signs for routes, tourist attractions, and relics on highways and gateways to the town to introduce and guide tourists when they come to the town. At the same time, directing the People's Committees of communes and wards to guide traditional craft villages, making handicraft products such as traps, baskets, and bamboo boat models; building OCOP product brands to serve tourism; researching and bringing folk cultural and artistic forms such as dum singing, three-price singing, cheo singing, and sea singing to serve tourists and at festivals.

Traditional festivals are unique cultural features that attract tourists to Quang Yen.

Every year, the town registers to organize 20-28 programs and events to promote and attract tourism. Signing a cooperation program with press agencies to promote the land, culture and people of Quang Yen with about 3,250 articles and 1,200 clips of all kinds. The town has published 5,000 photo books "Quang Yen Tourism" in English and Vietnamese. In 2023, a 200-episode documentary film was made with the theme "Country seen from the sea" filmed at Bach Dang National Special Relic Site to promote, introduce and introduce historical and cultural relics, and promote tourism development. Thereby attracting a large number of people and tourists from inside and outside the province to visit the relics and stay in the town.

Thanks to promoting solutions in connecting relics with tourism development, the number of tourists to Quang Yen in general and historical and cultural relics in the area in particular has increased steadily over the years. In 2022, it welcomed 300,000 visitors, in 2023 it welcomed 350,000 visitors, in 2024 it welcomed 603,000 visitors, with revenue reaching 401 billion VND.
