Determined to build the 6th city of Quang Ninh

On January 1, 2025, Dong Trieu City solemnly held the Ceremony to announce Resolution No. 1199/NQ-UBTVQH15 of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the establishment of Dong Trieu City and received the First Class Labor Medal. Becoming the 5th city of Quang Ninh province is an important political event, an honor and pride for the Party Committee, government and people of Dong Trieu. This is also the result of the efforts and determination to strive for development in all aspects of the government and people of the Fourth War Zone.

After nearly 10 years of establishment, Dong Trieu has become a bright spot in the socio-economic development of Quang Ninh. The economy has continuously maintained stable and sustainable development, with an average growth rate of over 14% in the 2020-2024 period. The economic structure has shifted positively, with the industrial - construction and service - trade sectors accounting for 95.9%; the agricultural - forestry - fishery sector accounting for 4.1%. In particular, Dong Trieu has always been the leading locality in Quang Ninh, as well as the whole country, in building new rural areas, advanced new rural areas, and model new rural areas. People's lives have been increasingly improved, with an average income per capita in 2024 reaching 8,803 USD, and there are no more poor households in the city according to the province's criteria.

The joy and excitement of the Party Committee, government and people of Dong Trieu City has spread strongly, motivating Quang Ninh to continue striving to establish Quang Yen City in 2025, which will be the 6th city under the province.

To realize the transformation of Quang Yen into a city, Quang Yen Town has just built a project to establish Hiep Hoa and Tien An wards and establish Quang Yen City in Quang Ninh province. Quang Yen Town currently has 333.70km2 of natural area, a converted population of 210,602 people; there are 19 commune-level administrative units, including 11 wards and 8 communes. According to the plan, Quang Yen will become a city in 2025 on the basis of maintaining the entire natural area and population of Quang Yen Town, being an industrial center, seaport logistics services, reaching type II urban status before 2030.

In 2025, Quang Yen town will mobilize all resources for socio-economic development, completing the urban infrastructure system and traffic infrastructure. Along with that, the town will strongly attract investment capital, especially non-budgetary capital and FDI capital, thereby promoting rapid and sustainable economic development. Quang Yen strives for the industry - construction sector to account for 78-80%; services to account for 15-17%; agriculture, forestry and fishery to account for 2-4% in the local economic development structure. Total development investment capital is over 27,000 billion VND. Total state budget revenue strives to reach 1,828 billion VND.

Along with infrastructure investment, investment attraction, and economic development, Quang Yen Town continues to evaluate the missing and weak criteria to complete and supplement urban criteria to become a city.

Quang Yen is currently a potential and advantageous locality with both sea routes, roads and air routes adjacent to Van Don airport and Cat Bi airport (Hai Phong), the southwestern gateway of the province, located between the three major cities of Hai Phong, Uong Bi, Ha Long, one of the gateways for trade with the key economic region of the North to develop regional and inter-regional economy. Along with the development and synchronous investment in traffic infrastructure, Quang Yen town is currently planning to strongly develop industrial parks, seaports and logistics services. In the town, there are currently 5 industrial parks: Dong Mai, Song Khoai, Nam Tien Phong, Bac Tien Phong, Bach Dang, along with Quang Yen coastal economic zone, which have been attracting many enterprises, investors, and large corporations to invest, develop production and business, bringing growth to enterprises as well as the locality.

With the determination to make Quang Yen town the 6th city of Quang Ninh province, right from the first days and months of 2025, the Party Committee, government, people and business community in the town have made efforts to effectively implement the goals and plans set for the year. Thereby, determined to strive with Quang Ninh province to become a city directly under the Central Government by 2030.
