Be proactive against measles virus
According to the reporter of Kinh te & Do thi newspaper at the vaccination site of Phu Dien Kindergarten, Phu Dien ward, there are 70 children who are eligible for vaccination. To welcome people, the vaccination site has arranged enough seats; divided the reception area, examination and consultation, vaccination, and post-vaccination monitoring.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, in Phu Dien ward, Bac Tu Liem district, took her child for vaccination and said that her son is almost 4 years old but has only received 1 dose of measles vaccine. "When I was informed about the additional vaccination, I took him to get vaccinated immediately and felt more secure about the measles epidemic" - Ms. Hang shared.
Similarly, at the Lien Mac Kindergarten vaccination site, the organization and implementation of additional measles-rubella vaccination for children was carefully prepared. Many parents brought their children to receive the free measles vaccination very early.
Ms. Le Thanh Phuong (Hoang Xa, Lien Mac) took her daughter Ngo Minh Chau (nearly 3 years old) to get the second dose of measles vaccine and shared: “With measles, through researching information, I found that with enough doses, the vaccine will create a sufficient amount of antibodies with sustainable immunity in the body, helping to prevent the risk of measles even when exposed to the virus in the future. Therefore, as soon as I received the school's notice, I took my child to get the second dose of measles vaccine.”
Doctor Nguyen Hong Nhung - Head of Lien Mac Ward Health Station, Bac Tu Liem District Health Center said that after 2 screenings, Lien Mac Ward has 135 children eligible for vaccination. In this vaccination campaign, the ward received 160 doses of measles-rubella vaccine.
To facilitate and achieve high efficiency in the vaccination campaign, at the Lien Mac Kindergarten vaccination site, Bac Tu Liem district mobilized 30 human resources including staff from the ward's Primary Health Care Steering Committee, the district health center, the ward health center and teachers from Lien Mac Kindergarten to serve the vaccination campaign. Along with the support of human resources from the district health center, an emergency team was arranged to respond to situations during the vaccination session.
Ensure safety, efficiency and quality for the campaign
To ensure the safety, effectiveness and quality of the campaign, Bac Tu Liem district has established 4 inspection teams to evaluate the organization and implementation of the vaccination campaign at vaccination sites in the area.
Director of Bac Tu Liem District Health Center Nguyen Van Ty said that through statistical review, the whole district has about 2,052 subjects subject to vaccination, including children aged 1-5 years old living in 13 wards and medical staff at risk at medical examination and treatment facilities treating measles patients in the area who have not received enough doses of vaccination according to regulations.
Of these, 1,320 children aged 1-5 living in 13 wards were vaccinated simultaneously at health stations, schools and mobile vaccination points. Dong Ngac is the ward with the highest number of children vaccinated against measles in this campaign with 320 children.
Medical units in the district have vaccinated more than 95% of children aged 1 to 5 years old living in Bac Tu Liem district who have not received enough doses of measles-containing vaccine as prescribed to receive one dose of measles-rubella vaccine. The district health center will organize vaccination for subjects temporarily exempted from vaccination during regular vaccination sessions until November 15, 2024.
To ensure the effectiveness of the campaign, especially ensuring safety during the vaccination process, all medical staff participating in vaccination are retrained in technical expertise; instructions on reception, examination, consultation, vaccination, and post-vaccination monitoring are strictly implemented at vaccination sites, with reasonable arrangements and one-way procedures.
The health stations organize investigations and screening of subjects; make lists and exploit vaccination histories for measles, measles-rubella and measles-mumps-rubella, and allergy histories of all children from 1 to 5 years old in the area, including transient subjects.
Wards actively propagate the dangers of measles and rubella, the need for measles and rubella vaccination, vaccination subjects, time and place for measles and rubella vaccination so that parents can bring their children to be fully vaccinated.
The representative of the Health Center assessed that in this vaccination campaign, at the vaccination sites, the one-way principle was ensured, the waiting area before vaccination, reception area, pre-vaccination screening and consultation area, and post-vaccination monitoring area were strictly implemented, arranged reasonably and safely.
To ensure that children of the right age are vaccinated this time, the health sector has checked the schools and the children at home through the village health team. Even for children who are transient and living in the area, the situation will be known to inform parents to take their children for vaccination. The city's goal is to not miss any children who are eligible for vaccination.
