Coach Mauricio Pochettino signed a three-year contract, and will start leading Chelsea from the 2023-2024 season.

A year after being sacked by PSG, Pochettino has found a new job at Chelsea. According to news expert Fabrizio Romano, the 51-year-old coach has signed a contract with the team until the summer of 2026. Chelsea will officially announce this decision in the near future.

Before signing Pochettino, Chelsea had negotiated with Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann. However, both coaches withdrew when they were not satisfied with the team's transfer policy.

According to the Daily Mail , Pochettino has made a transfer request for the summer of 2023, when he wants Chelsea to add a goalkeeper, a central midfielder and a striker. Chelsea currently has about 10 attacking players, but only two strikers, Aubameyang and Armando Broja. While Aubameyang is past his prime, Broja has not met the trust of the players when playing with only one goal in 18 matches this season.

Owner Todd Boehly is directly involved in negotiating Chelsea player transfers. According to Transfermarkt , Chelsea spent $656 million on player signings in the 2022-2023 season. In return, they only collected $73 million from player sales.

Chelsea's performance on the pitch has not met expectations, as they sit 12th ahead of the final round of the Premier League. This season, Chelsea have gone through four managerial reigns, in turn Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Bruno Saltor and Frank Lampard.

Pochettino, 51, played as a centre-back or holding midfielder as a player. The Argentine coach began his coaching career at Espanyol in 2009, then took charge of Southampton. His peak came when he led Tottenham from 2014 to 2019, when the team continuously qualified for the European Cup. It was not until he led PSG from 2021 to 2022 that Pochettino won his first titles: Ligue 1, the French Cup and the French Super Cup.
