On the morning of July 22, high schools in Ho Chi Minh City began accepting applications for additional enrollment. This is considered a "salvage ticket" for candidates who fail all three of their wishes to enter public high schools.
Parents line up to buy additional admission application forms at Le Thi Hong Gam High School on the morning of July 22.
At Le Thi Hong Gam High School (District 3), from early morning, many parents came to register for additional admission.
Ms. Nguyen Mai (Hoc Mon district) said that her son scored 15.25 points in the exam. After the announcement of additional admission, the family planned to enroll him in Binh Tan High School (Binh Tan district) because he had just enough points, and the distance from home to school was about 15km. However, this morning, the family changed their mind.
"Binh Tan High School only recruits 20 additional students. If the school takes scores from high to low, it will have recruited enough students who are not yet qualified for my child. Therefore, families must prioritize choosing schools with many additional enrollment targets to increase their chances of getting into public high schools," said Ms. Mai.
From early morning, many parents came to register for additional admission for their children.

Mr. MH said that although his house is in Binh Tan district, his son has been studying in District 1 for the past years. When he heard that public high schools were recruiting more students, he took his son everywhere to register, hoping that a school would accept him.
Pointing to his junior high school transcript, Mr. MH emotionally said: "My child scored 14 points in the exam, but the school's supplementary admission score was 15 points. I went to submit it but the school returned it because it did not meet the requirements. The schools with suitable scores for my child are very far away, about 20km or more."
Father and son plan to go look for a few more schools in Ho Chi Minh City this morning. If they don't find any, they will return to register for vocationaleducation - continuing education.
This year, Le Thi Hong Gam High School recruited 38 additional students. On the first morning alone, the school's additional enrollment zalo group had more than 80 parents participating.
Candidates who meet the admission requirements will submit their test scores and leave a contact phone number. If admitted, the school will notify them to complete their admission application.
Ms. Nguyen Phuong (District 12) said that she did not dare to leave her phone all morning. Every time she saw the number of members participating, she became more and more worried.
"According to regulations, candidates are only allowed to apply to one school. Even though my child has 0.5 points left, I still cannot rest assured because this is the last chance for my child to enter a public high school," Ms. Phuong confided.
This year, Thanh Da High School (Binh Thanh District) is recruiting 47 additional students, and this morning it received 20 applications.
Similarly, the number of parents coming to Dao Son Tay High School (Thu Duc City) on the first day of registration was also quite large.

Most of the high schools with many additional admissions are located in suburban areas. Of which, Phong Phu High School (Binh Chanh District) has the highest enrollment quota with 300 students, followed by Nguyen Van Linh High School (District 8), An Nhon Tay High School (Cu Chi District), Nguyen Van Tang High School (Thu Duc City).
Candidates wishing to take the supplementary admission exam will register from July 22 to 5 p.m. on July 27 at high schools that have additional admission exams. On August 6, the school will announce the list of candidates who have passed the supplementary admission exam.
