Mold is an allergen that leads to sinusitis, so you should clean your house to prevent moisture and drink warm water to prevent illness during the rainy season.

The humid environment in the rainy season is a favorable condition for mold to grow. Meanwhile, mold is an allergen that leads to sinusitis and allergic rhinitis, symptoms of nasal congestion, runny nose, cough, fever, sore throat. People who inhale mold spores in the air, people with immunodeficiency such as diabetes, HIV, cancer... are susceptible to sinusitis.

To prevent the disease, Master, Doctor, CKI Pham Thi Phuong, ENT Center, Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, suggests the following ways.

Clean and ventilate the house: When the humidity is high, mold can easily grow in the house, especially in dusty and humid places. Clean the house every day to prevent mold from causing disease.

Open the door to let in the sunlight regularly : Mold thrives in dark, closed, humid environments. Opening the door to let in the sunlight helps air circulate, keeping the house dry. Turn on the fan after cleaning the house to ventilate. Do not turn on the fan while cleaning the house to avoid spreading dust into the air.

Wash bedding weekly : You only need to wash bedding once a week during the dry season, but twice a week during the rainy season. Washing regularly helps prevent germs.

Take a warm shower after coming back from the rain : This can warm your body. If you get caught in the rain, take a shower early to avoid catching a cold.

Do not go barefoot when it rains : The soles of your feet get cold due to being soaked in the rain, causing colds, coughs and sinus diseases. You can wear plastic shoes during the rainy season to protect your feet, and wear slippers indoors if the floor is cold.

Drink warm water: Warm water drunk in the morning when waking up, after coming back from the rain, and at night before going to bed helps warm the body, makes it easier to sleep, and is good for the nose and sinuses. Herbal teas such as honey lemon tea, chamomile tea, and ginger tea have natural anti-inflammatory properties and can also protect the ears, nose, and throat.

You should drink tea in the morning, avoid caffeinated drinks after 2pm to avoid affecting your sleep. Do not drink ice cold water because it can easily irritate the throat lining, leading to pharyngitis and sinusitis.

Do not swim in the early morning, afternoon, or evening : The temperature in the afternoon and evening is often low, swimming at this time can easily cause a cold leading to sinusitis. You should take a quick shower, change clothes, and drink a glass of water to warm up your body after swimming.

In addition to the above measures, people should get a flu vaccine, wear a mask when leaving the house, wash their hands with antibacterial soap, and limit going to crowded places during infectious disease outbreaks. Regular health check-ups and ENT examinations twice a year also help detect abnormalities early and intervene promptly.
