Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, running mate of US Vice President Kamala Harris, accepted CBS News' invitation to attend the bipartisan vice presidential debate with Senator JD Vance, running mate of former President Donald Trump, on October 1.
"See you October 1, JD," Mr. Walz wrote on his personal account X (formerly Twitter name) about 7 minutes after CBS News announced the news.
Kamala Harris' presidential campaign followed suit, announcing that it had accepted an invitation from CBS News. "Governor Walz looks forward to debating JD Vance, if he is available," a campaign official said.

A spokesman for Mr. Vance has not yet responded to the invitation, and Mr. Vance did not answer questions about his decision when asked by a reporter on the tarmac of Boone County Airport, Kentucky.
CBS News said it has proposed a total of four debate dates: September 17, September 24, October 1 and October 8.
Former President Trump announced last week that his campaign had agreed to participate in the CBS News vice presidential debate, adding that Mr. Vance was willing to “step up.” However, it was unclear at the time which day Mr. Trump was referring to.
Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris have agreed to participate in the debate organized by ABC News on September 10.
