The above is the sharing of Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh at the 60th anniversary celebration of the founding of the University of Forestry, taking place in Hanoi on November 16.

Sending congratulations to the school's teachers and students, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh said that the school is the leading unit in the country in training human resources in the forestry sector for the country.

"With its great contributions to the industry and the country, the school has been awarded the title of Labor Hero, the First Class Independence Medal, the First Class Labor Medal and many other noble awards by the Party and State," said the Deputy Prime Minister.

To keep up with the trend of the times, the Deputy Prime Minister requested the Forestry University to constantly improve the quality of training and scientific research, closely linked to practice.

Graduates of the school must be quality forestry experts, with both knowledge and a solid foundation, as well as practical skills, diverse soft skills and the ability to work in a practical environment.

Schools need to equip students with the necessary skills to be ready to enter the challenging labor market and be able to meet the strict requirements of employers.

"The quality of the school's training must be tested by the attractiveness of its graduates entering the workforce. When employers highly appreciate and enthusiastically seek out students from the University of Forestry, this is proof of success," the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, in the context of increasingly extreme climate change, schools need to research climate change and sustainable adaptation; biodiversity conservation and sustainable development; development of 4.0 generation forestry technology and forest product processing; research on services, ecosystems and non-timber values of forests; research on the application of information technology and AI in forest development and protection, etc.

The school needs to promote international cooperation, regularly update and grasp research and training trends in the forestry field.

International cooperation is one of the important factors that helps the school expand its scale, improve the quality of training and scientific research, to surpass other universities in the region and internationally.

At the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dien, Principal of the school, said that the achievements of the school have contributed positively to the economic and social development of the country, especially in the midland and mountainous areas.

In the 2024-2025 school year, the school will train 28 undergraduate majors, 12 master's majors, 6 doctoral majors and high school majors.

The total number of students in all training systems and levels of the school is nearly 13,000 people, including: 9,000 undergraduate students, 1,200 graduate students, 55 doctoral students, and 2,670 high school students.

Sharing about the successes and cooperation between the two units over the past years, Dr. Rémi Nono Womdim, Chief Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Vietnam (FAO), said that the University of Forestry plays an important role and has great significance, not only in terms of trees, forest land, water, etc., but also in the ecosystem where we live.

Today's forestry industry goes far beyond the boundaries of science and practice, where it addresses global issues, serves sustainable development, mitigates the causes of climate change, biodiversity and ecological problems.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is delighted to join hands in meaningful and effective cooperation with the school to address the important challenges of deforestation and climate change.

"Through cooperation, we work together to promote sustainable forest activities or address the challenges of global climate change in the coming time," said Dr. Rémi Nono Womdim.
