The visit took place in the context of the good development of relations between Vietnam and the Kingdom of Denmark and the Kingdom of Norway in many fields. Denmark and Norway were among the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam, actively supporting Vietnam in the struggle for national independence and reunification in the past as well as in the current national construction and development. The royal families of the two countries have sympathy for the country and people of Vietnam, and strongly support strengthening relations with Vietnam.

The Vietnamese community in Denmark currently has about 16,000 people, in Norway there are about 23,000 people. Most of them have acquired local citizenship, have stable lives, integrate, work hard and are highly appreciated by the local government.

Vietnam-Denmark relations have developed positively, especially after the two countries established a Strategic Partnership in the fields of climate change, energy, environment and green growth (in 2011), upgraded to a Comprehensive Partnership (in 2013) and established a Green Strategic Partnership (November 2023).

In terms of politics and diplomacy, the two sides regularly exchange high-level delegations and cooperate closely at multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations, ASEAN and the Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G).

In terms of economy and trade, two-way trade turnover in 2022 will reach over 721 million USD. Denmark currently has 154 investment projects in Vietnam with a total capital of 1.79 billion USD, notably the project to build a factory worth over 1 billion USD in Binh Duong by the Lego group from 2022.

Denmark has ratified the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) (November 2021). Regarding development cooperation, Denmark is among the countries providing the most non-refundable capital (ODA) to Vietnam, focusing on the fields of infrastructure construction, poverty reduction, sustainable development, etc. Denmark has joined the Political Declaration establishing the Partnership for a Just Energy Transition (JETP) with Vietnam (December 2022).

With Norway, the relationship between the two countries continues to develop well. In terms of politics and diplomacy, Vietnam and Norway maintain exchanges of high-level delegations and all levels, coordinate effectively at international forums and organizations, especially in issues such as climate change, ocean economic development, and reducing ocean pollution...

In terms of economy and trade, two-way trade turnover in 2022 reached 609.6 million USD, an increase of 25% compared to 2021. Norway currently has 52 investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of 192.5 million USD. Regarding development cooperation, to date, Norway has provided Vietnam with ODA worth nearly 400 million USD, mainly in the fields of environment, renewable energy, education, economic management, administrative reform, and mine clearance, fisheries, etc.

Cooperation in other fields such as culture - education, human rights, construction, labor, sports, tourism... is increasingly expanded and promoted by the two countries.
