The documentary "Vietnam Women's Football, the first story told" directed by Nguyen Thi Tham will be exclusively screened at BHD cinema chain nationwide.
The film follows the historic journey of the Vietnam women's football team at the 2023 World Cup, marking the first time Vietnamese women's football has appeared on the world stage.
The launch event took place right before Vietnamese Women's Day on October 20, contributing to honoring the silent yet courageous efforts of Vietnamese women. The 78-minute film was invested in and produced by Vietcontent, with the producer being Viewfinder.
Many members of the Vietnam women's team for the 2023 World Cup appeared at the film's premiere.
In the 2023 Women's World Cup qualifiers, the Vietnamese women's team overcame many difficulties from the COVID-19 pandemic. At one point, only 3 players were able to practice. However, with the spirit of overcoming difficulties and resilience of Vietnamese women, the golden girls excellently won tickets to the World Cup in the first days of the new year.
“ This is the story of the Vietnamese women’s football team, as a colorful independent character, with an inspiring path, breaking the usual feminist stereotypes on the male-female comparison axis. There is no slogan ‘Women can do anything men can do’.
They play football with all the qualities of a woman, uncompromising in every arena. The purest passion is the passion without reference and surpassing oneself, " director Nguyen Thi Tham shared.
From its debut at the 1997 SEA Games to its entry into the global arena at the 2023 World Cup, a 30-year journey of silence has come to light. A journey of dreams coming true, barriers broken, and courageous and persistent steps from generations of athletes, creating a new standard for Vietnamese sports.
