The film Childhood Moon is a work produced by Liberation Film Joint Stock Company on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2024); the 134th anniversary of Uncle Ho's birthday (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2024) and the 113th anniversary of Uncle Ho's departure to find a way to save the country (June 5, 1911 - June 5, 2024).

The film's script won third prize in the feature film script writing competition organized by the Cinema Department in 2020. The project is set from 1895 to 1901 when Uncle Ho (childhood name Nguyen Sinh Cung) and his parents Nguyen Sinh Sac, Hoang Thi Loan and his brother Nguyen Sinh Khiem first visited Hue.
The official poster is an image of the 4 members of Uncle Ho's family at that time, each person's face contains a different feeling, in the distance is the Hue Citadel with Ngo Mon Gate, the magnificent palaces. The contrasting image is the 4 members of Uncle Ho's family struggling to cross the scorching sand dunes to set foot on the prosperous land without knowing what the journey ahead will await.

During the period of more than 5 years living in Hue Citadel, Nguyen Sinh Cung saw many new things. Compared to his hometown Nghe An, Hue had many large and beautiful houses, many majestic palaces. But Hue also revealed the most obvious class conflicts about power and social security.
The French ruled arrogantly, haughtily and cruelly. The mandarins of the Southern Dynasty were majestic in their brocade robes, velvet shoes and dragonfly-wing hats, but they were timid and submissive before the king and even before the French. The rest were mostly farmers, porters, rickshaw pullers, vagabonds… who endured miserable and humiliating fates under oppression and exploitation.
Director Ho Ngoc Xum said the film came to him by chance. At that time, he was working on another TV series when he received an invitation from the production unit. “At that time, I had no intention of doing it. But when I finished reading the script, there were a few details that I was quite interested in. Before agreeing, I decided to go to Hue and Nghe An to learn about the actual situation,” the director said.
The director revealed that what he was most satisfied with in this project was the depiction of Uncle Ho's childhood as an innocent, normal child with many mischievous pranks like any other child. The film also did not follow the direction of "deifying" his life.
But it was the everyday situations based on observation, intelligence, filial piety… that contributed to nurturing the seeds to create the character and personality of a future leader. It can be said that the period of living in Hue with many family events, historical and social changes helped the boy Nguyen Sinh Cung mature in both thinking and perception and was the premise for the right decisions in the future.

In addition to sticking to history with expert advice, the film will have some fictional details but will be based on oral sources so that when watching the film, the audience will feel convinced.
The film stars Tran Viet Bac, Ngo Le Quyen, Pham Huu Dai, Luu Van An, Bach Cong Khanh, Nguyen Ngoc Kim Ngan, Ali Quang Khai, Bui Nguyen Hoang Phuc, Nguyen Ho Nhat Minh, Tran Duc Tuan Hung... The film is scheduled to be released on May 17.
