The first-look segment reveals the appearance of Vinh (Avin Lu), Mien (Ngoc Xuan), Phuc (Do Nhat Hoang) - a group of close friends who were close throughout their youth in the 1990s. Growing up, Vinh and Phuc both fell in love with Mien, and the love triangle was the key to the main characters' life events. Vinh's dialogue in the video is taken from the original story: "Friendship is the most suitable soil for love to sow its seeds. At some point, we will receive the most precious reward, which is love."
Of the three main actors, Avin Lu was the only one invited to the casting because he played musician Trinh Cong Son in Em va Trinh . Ngoc Xuan appeared in the movie Giac mo cua me (2022), and the MV Vi sao sang by singer Lam Truong. Do Nhat Hoang is a dancer, having joined the Buoc Nhay dance troupe, but does not have much experience in acting.
The film also introduces the main setting in Phu Yen , from flooded rice fields during flood season, rolling hills to streams flowing through old forests, bustling village temples and festivals. Director Trinh Dinh Le Minh and the art department restored the old setting to recreate the life of the Central Vietnamese countryside from 1992-1997. Child actors play the three main characters as children, including Thanh Tu (Vinh), Bao Tien (Mien) and Hao Khang (Phuc).
The story Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story was released in 2016, revolving around the lives of the characters Vinh, Phuc and Mien. All three grew up in a town in the Central region, experiencing unforgettable memories of their school days. When entering high school, Vinh discovered that his long-standing feelings for Mien were love. When he realized that he also liked Mien, Phuc kept quiet out of respect for their friendship.

The first foolishness develops into a deep love relationship, including "eating rice before the bell rings", the female protagonist becomes pregnant and has to be a single mother. The publisher initially planned to label the story 16+, then decided not to limit the age because it considered the work highlyeducational .
Nguyen Nhat Anh's books have been adapted to the screen many times. In 2004, the TV series Kaleidoscope was released, with actors: Ngoc Trai, Tieu Long, Anh Dao. The movie I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass, directed by Victor Vu, was released in 2015.
