The 7th Hanoi International Film Festival in 2024 will take place from November 7-11 in Hanoi, directed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the Hanoi People's Committee; chaired by the Department of Cinema, in coordination with the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and other agencies and units.
According to the Organizing Committee, the 7th Hanoi International Film Festival is a cultural and artistic event, honoring cinematic works of high artistic value, rich in humanity, with outstanding and unique international and Vietnamese creative imprints. The film festival is a practical activity to celebrate the country's major holidays in 2024 and the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).
The 7th Hanoi International Film Festival (HIFF) with the slogan “Creative Cinema - Take Off” aims to discover and honor new cinema talents; introduce outstanding works of cinema around the world and connect, exchange and cooperate for mutual development, creating opportunities to expand the Vietnamese cinema market and integrate into the international cinema market.
The festival aims to attract the attention of Hanoi audiences and international delegates, contributing to promoting Hanoi, the beautiful and hospitable Vietnam, the capital with a long-standing cultural tradition, a thousand-year history of civilization, a city for peace, a rapidly developing city voted by UNESCO as a creative city.
From more than 500 registered films, the 7th Hanoi International Film Festival selected 117 feature films and short films from 51 countries and territories. The Organizing Committee of the Film Festival established a preliminary selection committee and a final selection committee to select films to participate in the Film Festival's programs. The results were: 11 feature films, including 8 foreign feature films from Switzerland, the Russian Federation, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, Estonia, South Korea, and Iran.
The representative feature film of Vietnam in the competition is "Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story", a new film by director Trinh Dinh Le Minh, produced in 2024. The work is adapted from the novel of the same name by writer Nguyen Nhat Anh.
Within the framework of the Film Festival, there are also activities: Exhibition: "Vietnam's heritage recognized by UNESCO" - Experience through film footage", Workshop "Spotlight on German cinema", Workshop "Development of film production exploiting historical themes and adaptations from literary works", Film project market, Indoor and outdoor film screenings.
The Opening and Closing Ceremonies - Awards Ceremony were held at Ho Guom Theater, Hanoi.
