On the afternoon of May 22, the Ministry of Industry and Trade held a conference to launch a national electricity saving campaign in 2023. The conference was held in person and online at electricity companies in provinces and cities across the country. Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dang Hoang An chaired the conference.

Faced with the reality of rising world energy prices combined with the impact of climate change and the El Nino phenomenon causing drought, the water flow to hydroelectric reservoirs across the country has decreased sharply compared to the same period many years ago, greatly affecting the power generation capacity of hydroelectric plants. In addition, the capacity and output of wind power plants have also decreased sharply due to poor wind conditions, so the current power generation capacity only reaches 5.6% of the installed capacity of the plants.
In particular, from the end of April 2023 until now, hot weather has occurred severely over a large area with temperatures higher than the average of many years, leading to increased demand for electricity nationwide, causing the risk of power shortage for production and consumption.

To increase electricity saving, contributing to ensuring electricity supply for production, business and daily life activities of people in the dry season as well as the whole year of 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Trade requests functional units under the Ministry of Industry and Trade and relevant ministries and branches at the central level, Vietnam Electricity Group, People's Committees of provinces and cities to strengthen propaganda, disseminate widely, continuously, and in many appropriate forms on economical and efficient use of electricity; urgently develop and seriously implement the electricity usage chart of each industry and field; effectively implement the Government's direction on ensuring electricity supply in the dry season of 2023, the National Program on economical and efficient use of energy and the National Program on electricity demand management for the period up to 2030.
Along with that, there are solutions to support and encourage businesses and households to apply energy-saving solutions; Strengthen training at agencies, businesses and people on solutions and ways to save electricity; strictly handle violations of legal regulations, and promptly commend and reward organizations and individuals who effectively implement electricity-saving solutions.
Director of Thanh Hoa Electricity Company Hoang Thanh Son shared about the electricity supply situation in the province and asked customers and people to accompany the electricity industry to use electricity economically, safely and effectively.

Director of Thanh Hoa Department of Industry and Trade Pham Ba Oai requested Thanh Hoa Electricity Company to closely coordinate with customers to effectively implement the electricity saving program in the province.
Immediately after the launch of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Department of Industry and Trade and Thanh Hoa Electricity Company provided more information on the electricity supply situation and the risk of power shortage in the coming time; the plan to adjust non-commercial loads with 110 kV customers in 2023. Thereby, the electricity industry and businesses shared the difficulties to ensure safe and stable power supply for production and daily life; at the same time, they requested major customers to coordinate well with Thanh Hoa Electricity Company in adjusting loads.
