According to tradition, on the evening of January 13 and early morning of January 14 every year, people of La Phu commune (Hoai Duc district, Hanoi) hold a "Mr. Pig" procession.
It is known that the festival is an occasion for villagers to commemorate the merits of Tinh Quoc Tam Lang under the reign of Hung Due Vuong the 6th who fought and defended the country, held on the night of January 13 every year.
The palanquin of "Mr. Pig" will be carried by young men.
The "pigs" serving the La Phu pig procession festival are decorated in many places such as nose, eyes, ears, head, tail and 4 limbs.
Leading the way were two large flags, followed by a band of trumpeters, a lion dance, and a table with all the worshiping items such as a lamp, a flower tube, a tray of five fruits, sweet rice cakes, and a censer of incense, followed by a piece of sticky rice.
The festival attracts a large number of locals and tourists.
Due to the large number of people, jostling and pushing occurred near La Phu communal house, where the "Mr. Pig" ceremony was held.
At around 8pm, the "pigs" were carried to the front gate of La Phu communal house to prepare for the ceremony. This was also the time when fireworks were continuously set off in the middle of the crowd.
Fireworks were shot off with cheers, everyone held their phones to record and broadcast live right in front of La Phu communal house gate.
On the way to the La Phu communal house, fireworks were also set off, creating a thick smoke screen that forced many people to cover their noses and mouths.
Because the fireworks were fired right in the middle of the crowd, many people standing nearby had to use umbrellas and cover their heads to avoid the fireworks falling on their heads and clothes.
Notably, in addition to using fireworks produced by the Ministry of Defense to shoot in crowds, some people also used smuggled fireworks to shoot with loud explosions.
According to the recommendation of the 21 Chemical Company Limited of the Ministry of National Defense, viewers must stand at least 10 meters away from products such as pellet sprayers and flower sprayers. However, in the crowd of La Phu village festival, fireworks made by the Ministry of National Defense and smuggled fireworks were fired a lot but no authorities intervened or handled them.
Around 9pm, all 17 "pigs" were brought into the communal house for display and scoring.
At 00:00, the elders begin the ceremony, which lasts until 1 or 2:00 a.m. the next day.
