After the general election in which no political party won a majority, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led by former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) of former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari have begun formal discussions to form a government.

According to the rules, in case no party wins a minimum majority, the party winning the largest number of seats in the National Assembly can form a coalition government.

According to a statement posted on social network X on the night of February 11, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Shehbaz Sharif said that the parties of the Sharif and Bhutto families "have agreed in principle to save the country from political instability".

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif contacted Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman to inform him about the talks with the PPP and urged the JUI-F leader to support the formation of a coalition government. Maulana Fazl confirmed that he would respond on February 14. Meanwhile, PML-N held a meeting with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Lahore and had a meeting with the PML-Q party on February 12 in the capital Islamabad…

The above series of activities took place after the election results were announced showing that independent candidates won 101 seats, the PML-N party of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had 75 seats and the PPP party of former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had 54 seats, the MQM party controlled 17 seats, and the JUI-F party received 4 seats.

Pakistan's incoming government is expected to face major challenges, including dealing with internal unrest, a severe economic crisis and illegal migration.

The country of 241 million people is struggling to recover from an economic crisis and battle militant violence in a deeply polarized political environment, Reuters reported. Inflation is soaring at nearly 30 percent, as the rupee has fallen sharply over the past three years and a massive balance of payments deficit has led to a ban on imports, significantly hampering Pakistan’s industrial development.
