The city will study more policies to support insurance, health care, and help workers' children study, according to Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai.
"Workers create wealth and contribute to the city's development, so they need to be taken care of thoroughly," said Ho Chi Minh City Chairman Phan Van Mai when visiting 43 families of workers who cannot return home for Tet at Hiep Phuoc accommodation area, Nha Be district, on February 7 (December 28).
According to Mr. Mai, due to difficult conditions, workers who come to the city to work have to celebrate Tet far from home and cannot return to reunite with their relatives. He hopes that workers who choose to stay and celebrate Tet in Saigon will share and see each other as family. The city chairman also asked the local government to support workers who stay to have many activities to celebrate the Spring Festival.

The head of the city government said that in the past, Ho Chi Minh City had many support policies but they still did not meet the needs of workers. In the near future, the government will study more policies related to insurance, health care for workers, and helping children study.
Previously, when city leaders came to wish him a happy new year, worker Nguyen Viet Than, 42 years old, said that due to economic difficulties, his family had not returned to Nghe An to celebrate the New Year with relatives for the past 15 years.
In 2023, he lost his job due to a lack of orders, and his family life was difficult. To have money to pay for his children's tuition and his wife's medicine, he applied to work as a busboy. Recently, he was hired by a factory in Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park, so life is less difficult.
In the new year, in addition to hoping for economic recovery and many factory orders, he suggested that the city have more policies to support loan interest rates and create conditions for workers to access social housing and low-cost housing to settle down and work.
According to the assessment of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation, this year due to the impact of the economic recession, many factories have lost orders and workers' income has decreased. Therefore, many people will choose to stay in the city during Tet to save costs, and quickly look for new job opportunities after Tet.
To help those who stay in the city have a happy Tet, the City and District Labor Union has a program to celebrate Tet with workers staying in dormitories . Accordingly, some dormitories with many workers staying will be supported by the union with the cost of the year-end party. In addition, on Tet holidays, the labor cultural house will also organize many cultural and spring programs for workers to have fun.
