In his address to the nation, President Macron firmly rejected calls for his resignation from the opposition, affirming that he will remain “fully” in charge of the French head of state until the end of his term in 2027. The head of the Élysée Palace expressed: “The mandate you democratically entrusted to me (in the 2022 election) is a five-year mandate… I will carry out this mandate fully, until the end.”
“I will appoint a prime minister in the coming days,” President Macron said, adding that the official would be responsible for forming a “government for the common good” that would prioritize passing the budget. The Élysée leader also took responsibility for his decision to call early parliamentary elections this summer, which resulted in no party winning a majority in France’s legislature.
Earlier on December 5, President Macron accepted the resignation of the government led by Prime Minister Barnier after opposition lawmakers "overthrew" him in a vote of no confidence on December 4.
According to the Elysee Palace, while waiting for the formation of a new government , President Macron asked Mr. Barnier to lead the interim government to handle current issues.
