Outstanding young Vietnamese faces
"I am very happy and excited. This award is a great honor for me" - that is how the 14-year-old girl felt about the recent ceremony to honor Outstanding Young Vietnamese Faces.
With what she has done, Dang Cat Tien (class 9/3, Thai Nguyen Secondary School, Nha Trang) has excellently become the youngest typical young Vietnamese face in history.
"The people in the top 10 Outstanding Young Vietnamese Faces this year are all uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters with a lot of age, experience, excellent achievements, and great contributions to society. Therefore, I really appreciate it and see this as an opportunity to learn, a motivation to strive even more," Tien said.
Although only 14 years old, Cat Tien has matured in her thoughts and actions. The female student always reminds herself to be more responsible towards society and contribute useful things to the country.
One of the most profound memories of Cat Tien during the trip to Hanoi was the dialogue on March 26 when I met the Prime Minister in person.
"I have learned many good messages, especially the message '5 shocks - 6 aspirations' that the Prime Minister sent to the young generation," Cat Tien said.
The Khanh Hoa student also said that this was an opportunity to meet and learn many interesting things from seniors in different fields. The meetings and conversations opened up many new perspectives for the 9th grade student.
Female President of "Children's Parliament"
If the trip to Hanoi in March 2024 brought Cat Tien joy and happiness, the trip in September 2023 brought the young girl an indescribable feeling of excitement. This was the first time the female student was assigned the important task of being the Chairwoman in the simulated session of the "Children's National Assembly". Before that, Cat Tien had passed a rigorous selection process.
With the topic of discussion on preventing accidents, injuries, violence against children and protecting children in a healthy and creative online environment, Cat Tien spent a lot of time learning about the guidelines, decisions, policies and laws issued related to children and cyber security. At the same time, the female student searched for information and observed the real problems that children are currently facing to come up with objective and effective assessments and solutions.
Since learning that she was chosen to take on that important role, the ninth grader has been watching the National Assembly sessions on television to understand the process of conducting the sessions. Thereby, she has learned the demeanor of the National Assembly Chairwoman, ready to do well in the assigned tasks.
Before the mock session took place, Cat Tien worked many times with the Organizing Committee to grasp the content to be discussed and how to run the meeting with the participation of 263 young delegates from all over the country.
At the age of 14, this is not an easy job, but with her own talent and efforts, Cat Tien excellently fulfilled the role of Chairman of the simulated session of the "Children's Parliament" and created a fever on social networking forums.
Cat Tien's proposal to the Ministry of Education and Training also became a strong impression at the meeting: Strengthen education, raise awareness of online safety for children and integrate this content into the curriculum. In addition, propaganda content for children needs to be more vivid.
For Cat Tien, this is an unforgettable memory. With everyone's care and love, the 14-year-old girl is determined to always try her best, make efforts but without pressure, improve her knowledge, skills, and practice more to not disappoint the trust and care of all levels, sectors, teachers, family and society.
Multi-talented female team leader
Cat Tien believes that the creation of such a confident and strong female National Assembly Chairwoman is all thanks to the learning and training process in her hometown of Khanh Hoa.
The female student was invested in by her parents' education, participating in swimming, drawing, and violin courses since she was young, so she was a bit bolder than her peers. Because of that, she was trusted by her teachers and friends to be the team leader.
At the age of 14, Cat Tien has a series of impressive achievements such as: First prize in the 2023 National Young Historians Competition, First prize in the 2023 English Excellent Student Competition in Khanh Hoa province, First prize in the Online English Competition, Second prize in the National Reading Culture Ambassador Competition in 2021.
During her 4 years at Thai Nguyen Secondary School, Cat Tien always achieved high scores in all subjects and was a well-rounded student in every semester. She revealed that she liked English the most out of all subjects.
"English is an indispensable subject to develop in the current era of global citizens. Thanks to English, I can access a variety of information sources and gain more knowledge in all fields. This subject will be the key to opening up opportunities to study at prestigious schools as well as great jobs in the future," said Cat Tien.
Putting studying first, the team leader always actively participates in extracurricular and volunteer activities to help the community. Cat Tien dreams of establishing a system of charity houses in the future to help disadvantaged and orphaned children nurture their dreams.
Sharing about the future, the 14-year-old female student said that she will try to continue to promote the balance between studying and actively participating in social activities and movements so as not to disappoint those who always believe in her.
Currently, Cat Tien aims to pass the entrance exam to grade 10 specializing in English at Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted - the school that she has always dreamed of.
