Cat Tien entered the top 20 nominations after playing the role of National Assembly Chairman in the mock session "Children's National Assembly", with near-perfect academic scores and many awards in Team activities.
Dang Cat Tien is currently a 9/3 student at Thai Nguyen Secondary School, Nha Trang City. The female student received news that she was nominated for Outstanding Young Vietnamese Faces of 2023 by the Central Youth Union on the evening of February 20.
"I was surprised and happy to be on the nomination list. This is an opportunity to learn and a motivation for me to continue trying," Tien said.

In September 2023, the female student passed many rounds of selection to play the role of the National Assembly chairwoman in the first simulated session of the "Children's National Assembly". Here, 263 children from all over the country discussed "Prevention of accidents, injuries, violence, and child abuse" and "Protecting children to interact healthily and creatively in the online environment".
To perform this role, Tien researches the guidelines and policies that have been issued regarding children and cyber security. She also seeks information to better understand the problems that children are facing, and from there, she makes comments and solutions to answer the questions of the "delegates".
According to Tien, the most difficult thing is to summarize the data concisely and convey the information in an easy-to-understand way. The female student spends a lot of time selecting and storing, remembering important details to cite when speaking.
Tien also watches the National Assembly sessions on television to grasp the content, the way of running and learn the style and presentation. At home, she often practices in front of the mirror and asks her parents for advice on how to express herself.

The mock meeting took place over two days, September 9-10, 2023, in the same format as the actual meeting. The first day was for group discussions, and the next day was for a plenary session. Tien found the group session the most interesting. From this session, opinions were compiled and presented to the plenary session. After that, the "ministers" explained and answered questions.
"I was impressed because the students discussed enthusiastically, maturely and confidently presented their thoughts," Tien recalled.
The female student said that recently there has been a problem with online safety for children. For example, many children have been tricked into romance, viewed information that is not age-appropriate, or accidentally accessed inappropriate websites. With images and videos of children being abused spreading online, Tien believes that there needs to be a solution to help equip children with life skills, skills to participate and protect themselves in the online environment.
Tien proposed that the Ministry of Education and Training strengthen education and raise awareness of online safety for children; integrate this content into curriculum. In addition, propaganda content for children needs to be more vivid.
"The meeting was as successful as expected, I'm happy to have completed the task," Tien said.

Tien said that since she was a child, her parents invested in her studies, taking swimming, drawing, and violin classes. Thanks to that, she became bold and active. She was the school's team leader, participated in the Khanh Hoa Provincial Children's House's ceremonial team, and achieved high results in local and central team leadership competitions, and won second prize in the National Reading Culture Ambassador.
Although Tien actively participates in extracurricular activities, she always puts studying first. Ms. Phan Thi Thao Uyen, Principal of Thai Nguyen Secondary School, assessed Tien as an excellent student in all aspects, achieving near-perfect scores continuously from grade 6 until now. In 2023, Tien won first prize in English in the provincial secondary school excellent student competition. The female student is also modest, polite, and sociable with teachers and friends.
"The school is very proud to have a student like Tien," Ms. Uyen shared.
Tien said that in the coming time, she will try her best to achieve high results in English competitions and pass the entrance exam to the 10th grade English major at Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted.
