Indonesian news site Detikjatim reported on December 1 that the incident occurred at SMA Negeri 1 high school in Sampang district, East Java province, while students were taking their final semester exams on November 30.
Exam supervisor Muhammad Nurchalid said he heard noises in the exam room and "asked the students to calm down, but they were still noisy and then a baby cried." Upon closer inspection, he discovered that a student had just given birth.
The incident occurred at SMA Negeri 1 Secondary School.

Nurchalid then contacted a female teacher and the school’s public relations (PR) officer to take the student to a community health center. However, because the baby’s placenta did not detach and the baby’s mother’s condition was unstable, the student was eventually transferred to a larger local hospital, according to the teacher.
The teacher and the girl's family said they were shocked by the incident because there was no indication that the girl was pregnant. Grade 10 students in Indonesia are usually 16 years old.
The school admitted that they did not suspect the female student because she was normally chubby.
Principal Sukardi said on December 1 that according to a local midwife, the female student had a normal pregnancy for 9 months and the baby girl weighed 3.2 kg. During the birth, the female student had a seizure due to hemorrhage and was taken to the intensive care unit, but is now recovering.
"We received the news at around 11:30 pm yesterday that the placenta had been successfully removed. Thank God, things are better now. The baby has been sent home," Mr Sukardi said on December 1.
