Conducted over a period of 6 weeks but in reality only 1 period/week, both teachers and students of Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School had a special report on folk literature with many surprises and interesting things on October 23.
How do people from the North, Central and South express their love?
With the topic "Learning about the characteristics of folk songs about love", a group of students from class 10A3, Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School surprised the participants with their meticulous research and comparison in a field that many people have experienced, which is... love.
However, the way of expressing love in the 3 regions of North, Central and South is completely different. Especially in feudal times, to start a love affair, it was not just expressed directly, face to face, but often put into folk songs as a way to express truly lyrical emotions.
In the North, because of the influence of the etiquette system and village rules deeply imprinted in their minds, their love and affection are deeply influenced by reason and moral standards... Therefore, the people of the North are more or less bound in their words and words of love.
Therefore, when talking about love, they often borrow the images of betel-areca, plum-peach to express their love, such as: "Now the plum asks the peach/ Has anyone entered the rose garden yet?/ The plum asks, the peach answers/ The rose garden has a path but no one has entered yet".
In the Central region, the land with harsh natural conditions also affects the concept and expression of love of the Central people in folk songs: "You come back to hoe the land to plant areca nuts/ Let me plant betel trees on one side/ We are like a pair of birds/ Together we build a warm life together".
Meanwhile, people in the South are famous for their open-minded and generous nature. Therefore, the way they express their feelings is also open and intense: "Seeing you, although small, has a hidden charm/I have secretly had a crush on you for three or four months now."
Explaining the topic choice, Nguyen Truong Khanh Ha, a member of group 10A3, said that folk literature seems very dry and difficult to "get into the head", but when having the opportunity to study it deeply, one discovers that it is very interesting and full of emotions.
"Just the way of expressing love and longing in love, each region has a different way of expressing. Choosing the topic is also close to our current age" - Khanh Ha shared.
Meanwhile, a group of students from class 10A1 chose a more "difficult" topic, which was the spiritual imprints of the ancient Ede people in the excerpt "Dam San goes to conquer the Sun Goddess", while a group from class 10A2 chose the topic "The system of gods in Greek mythology".
Differences of the 2018 General Education Program
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Phuong, a teacher at Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School, said that in the old program, students only studied lessons according to the program distribution, without any specialized topics. Having specialized topics in each subject in the 2018 General Education Program helps students have the conditions and time to learn more deeply about the knowledge streams.
With folk literature, teachers are also surprised when students are very interested in choosing their own topics to do the project. The process of choosing a topic, learning deeply, and researching not only inspires literature but also helps students raise their awareness. Topics that seem strange but are very close, create passion, desire to explore new things.
"From studying literature, students understand more about culture and pride in national culture. Many scientific research topics are born during the process of writing topics and specialized reports such as researching customs and practices, preserving the culture of the Ede people..." - Ms. Phuong said.
Mr. Ngo Van Dat, the instructor, said that in the process of finding topics for the thesis and report, the students themselves did everything, from coming up with ideas, finding materials, researching, presenting the report... This helped students a lot in the stages of forming the essay, facilitating their future studies at university. In addition, it also taught them the habit of reading, working in groups, applying information technology, and effectively implementing the goals of the 10th grade literature subject in the 2018 program.
According to Ms. Tran Thi Hong Thuy, Principal of Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School, this is the first class of students at the new school. They are professional and confident in annotating images, showing respect for copyright, writing essays, writing reports...
"Instead of having to go through traditional tests, having new and creative forms of learning will create interesting and effective lessons" - Ms. Thuy confided.
