This morning, April 20, Le Thi Bich Dao, a new bachelor of foreign economics with a GPA of 3.79/4.00, ranked excellent and became the valedictorian, was honored at the graduation ceremony of Saigon International University.
Instead of studying for 4 years like her classmates, Dao only took 3 years to complete the program.
Dao said: "I want to finish my studies early to enter the labor market sooner and be able to make good use of my time at university to develop."
Bich Dao was both an excellent high school student and an excellent university graduate.
Entering the first semester of her first year, Dao decided to study to get used to the university environment. From the second semester onwards, she started to register for more subjects. Instead of 5-6 subjects/semester, Dao studied 8-9 subjects. "This means I have to focus a lot of time and effort to be able to complete it," the female student said.
Accordingly, Dao is at school from morning to afternoon every day. When she is not in class, she goes to the library to study and read books, or participates in extracurricular activities. Although she is busy with her studies, in the evening, Dao still works as a tutor and a waitress at a Japanese restaurant to gain practical knowledge and hone her skills.
"There were peak times, many nights I had to stay up all night to do course reports, complete deadlines, review for semester exams... However, I tried to turn pressure into motivation to be able to complete the set goals," Dao recounted.
Notably, right after the internship at the end of year 3, Dao was recruited by the company. Currently, she is an official employee in the position of customer manager.
Sharing the secret to studying ahead and still achieving excellent graduation scores and having a job even before receiving a diploma, Dao said: "Time management skills are very important because you have to face a tight schedule. Therefore, you must know how to plan, schedule each day, each week and each semester to be able to complete each task without being overwhelmed and pressured. Besides, I think students should participate in activities and experience a lot to gain more skills and experience."
For difficult subjects, this female student said she often applies active learning methods by actively participating in group discussions, learning more resources outside of the textbook... After each exam or test, Dao takes time to review what she has done well and what she has not done well, thereby adjusting her learning methods.
Bich Dao represented the new graduates to speak at the graduation ceremony.
In addition, Dao believes that if students want to study ahead, they must also determine whether they can handle 3-4 more subjects each semester, because specialized knowledge is also very heavy, requiring the ability to absorb and organize properly.
It is known that Dao is a former student of Thang Long High School for the Gifted (Da Lat City, Lam Dong Province) with a total score of 3 years above 9. This female student won second prize in the provincial physics competition and was in the national physics team. Thanks to this achievement, Dao was awarded a university scholarship by Saigon International University with 100% tuition sponsorship and received 80 million VND in living expenses during the course.
Becoming the valedictorian, Dao continued to receive a master's scholarship from the school with 100% tuition and living expenses of 15 million VND/month.
"I plan to work for a while to gain experience and then return to school for a master's degree," the valedictorian shared.
