Ms. Nguyen Thi Vu Khuyen, born in 1985, is currently a lecturer at the Institute of Economics and Management, Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Known by many students for her youthful and individual style of dress, Ms. Khuyen recently became unexpectedly “famous” with a video of her teaching “all week without the same outfit”. This made the female lecturer both surprised and excited. “I simply thought it was a joy and created excitement for myself when going to work. Perhaps, when students see their teachers in a fresh style, they will be less bored.” As a former student of Banking and Finance at the National Economics University, Ms. Khuyen graduated in 2007 - a time when the banking industry was very "hot" and had a high demand for human resources. At that time, she was recruited into the Large Corporate Clients Department at a bank. Although the job was favorable and had many opportunities, after nearly a year, Ms. Khuyen realized that if she continued to follow the target and work like a machine, it would be very difficult to develop in the future. Therefore, she wanted to continue studying to be able to return to apply it to her current job.

After that, she decided to study for a master's degree in Banking and Finance in Singapore - an Asian country with a fairly developed financial market. After 1 year of completing the program, she was invited to work at many banks with attractive salaries. At the same time, Hanoi University of Science and Technology was also recruiting lecturers to work at the Institute of Economics and Management. This made the young girl hesitate. "Indeed, working at a bank will bring a higher income than a lecturer, but at that time I wanted to do something that creates value for others. When I go to teach, I think it will be an opportunity for me to share my knowledge, energy and positivity with students."
Admitted and starting work at Hanoi University of Science and Technology in 2010, the first days standing on the podium for Ms. Khuyen were “unforgettable experiences”. “The first class I taught was an in-service class. At that time, the class had up to 70 people, including many elderly people. I was very young at that time, only 25 years old. But when I started teaching, I told myself that I had to do it and I could do it. Every time I “overcome myself” like that, I feel more energetic, more positive, like a dose of “doping” that makes my work and life more fun and interesting”.

Now, with 13 years of experience in the classroom, Ms. Khuyen said that every day in class, she constantly "upgrades" her lectures so that her sharing will be valuable to students. According to her, instead of teaching in the traditional way - that is, she talks, students copy - teachers must know how to design lectures and students will be the ones to do the work. That means students need to explore, learn, do it themselves and discuss. For example, when teaching knowledge related to the stock market, the 8X teacher often requires the class to divide into groups, every week they have to review news related to the domestic and world financial markets, then convey it to the students in the class to listen and discuss together, clarifying the issues. "In the past, not many students were very interested in economic and social issues related to their major. Therefore, this will help students see what they are learning is happening in reality," said Ms. Khuyen. However, the female lecturer admitted that many students today are also very good. Some have even experienced and created in many fields, participating in investing and managing personal finances very scientifically. "Young people now have many channels of information to access and create. Therefore, when I go to class, I am always mentally prepared that there may be things I have to learn from students. I think that teachers today no longer hold the exclusive position as before."

A special thing during her teaching career is that Ms. Khuyen is remembered by many students for her dynamic style of dress. From the first years of teaching full-time students of the same age as her, the students were impressed with the young teacher because of her unique yet neat and youthful style. Many students even complimented her on her beautiful clothes and asked where to buy them. Also because she loves to mix and match clothes and is passionate about fashion, the 8X teacher also opened her own brand that she designed herself. “I think teachers also need to create sympathy and friendliness to attract students. Today's generation of students are very individualistic and confident, so the way teachers dress and put on youthful makeup, sometimes "following the trend" when standing on the podium will also make students feel closer, and teachers will also feel confident because they are "more beautiful" in the eyes of their students," Ms. Khuyen said.
