With the 2023 Cincinnati Masters championship in the US, Djokovic became the oldest player to ever win this tournament at the age of 36, surpassing the old record of legend Ken Rosewall (crowned at the age of 35). This is also the 39th ATP Masters 1,000 title in Nole's career.
Novak Djokovic has 68 major titles (including 23 Grand Slams, 39 ATP Masters 1,000s and 6 ATP Finals). This achievement helps the Serbian tennis player surpass his two great rivals Nadal (59 major titles) and Federer (54 major titles).
Despite losing to Djokovic in the final of the 2023 Cincinnati Open, Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest player to reach the final of this tournament at the age of 20, surpassing the old record of Pete Sampras at the age of 19 in 1991.
The final match of the Cincinnati Masters 2023 on the morning of August 21 is considered the best match in the history of the ATP Masters 1,000 tournaments. Alcaraz won the first set with a score of 7-5, however, Nole excellently won the remaining two sets with a score of 7-6.
The total playing time of the Cincinnati Open 2023 final was 3 hours and 50 minutes. This was the longest ATP Masters 1000 final in history in the best-of-three format.
Djokovic (9,795 points) received an additional 1,000 bonus points after winning the Cincinnati Masters 2023 and is now only 20 points behind Alcaraz (9,815 points). With this fragile gap, Djokovic has many opportunities to usurp Alcaraz's world number one position at the US Open 2023 (taking place from August 28 to September 10).
Alcaraz is the current Grand Slam champion in the US, so he will have to defend 2,000 points. On the contrary, Djokovic (who does not have to defend points due to his absence last year) can win all 2,000 points at the upcoming US Open if he wins the championship.
Daniil Medvedev (Russia) remains in 3rd place on the ATP with 6,260 points, while Holger Rune (Denmark) rises to 4th place with 4,790 points. Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) drops to 7th place with 4,580 points, while Alexander Zverev (Germany) moves up to 12th place thanks to his appearance in the 2023 Cincinnati Masters semi-finals.
