Promising Chess Talent Dau Khuong Duy

The player born in 2011 in Hanoi is highly appreciated by experts for his innate talent and remarkable progress in a short time. Coach Luong Trong Minh, who is in charge of this young player's expertise, said: "I have trained many players, including players who have achieved high results in international tournaments, but among them, Dau Khuong Duy, in my opinion, has the best memory. That is a very good quality, helping Duy learn quickly. He enjoys learning both strategy and tactics and quickly surpasses many other older players who have had more time to learn chess. I believe that if he follows the right path, Duy will soon realize his dream of becoming a Grandmaster."

Dao Thien Hai (standing) is currently the coach of the Vietnamese chess team.

Dao Thien Hai is the first player to put Vietnam on the world chess map with the U.16 gold medal in 1993. The player born in 1978 from Dong Thap left a series of marks such as the first Grandmaster of Vietnam, the first Vietnamese player to enter the world's top 100, the first Vietnamese player to have the honor of facing chess king Garry Kasparov. After retiring from his peak competitive career, Hai switched to coaching, contributing to the creation of two talents Nguyen Anh Khoi and Bach Ngoc Thuy Duong. Chess has been ingrained in the blood of the former number 1 player of Vietnam when he continued to contribute as the coach of the Vietnamese chess team and at the same time founded a chess school named after himself. Nguyen Anh Khoi (5th from right) is studying in his 4th year of medicine at VinUni University.

The 1994 U.12 Women's World Champion Nguyen Thi Dung (Thanh Hoa) received less attention as she did not stick with chess for long but instead switched to other fields. Next is the U.20 World Champion Hoang Thanh Trang, who made great strides, reaching the peak of 9th place in the world in 2006. That was also the time when the 1980-born player decided to switch to play for the Hungarian chess team and won the European Championship in 2013. Winning the U.10 World Championship in 2000, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son was considered a Vietnamese chess prodigy. Although his international career has not been as expected, Truong Son has still affirmed his talent in the top ranks of Vietnam today.

The 2005 U.14 World Champion Le Quang Liem is the most successful player in the history of Vietnamese chess, having continuously advanced with many championship titles in prestigious international tournaments, the pinnacle of which was the 2013 World Blitz Chess Championship. Quang Liem is also the first Vietnamese player to reach the elo milestone of 2,700 (Super Grandmaster) and is currently ranked 18th in the world with elo 2,731. He is currently both a player and the Director of the SPICE Chess Academy and the Head Coach of the Webster University Chess Team (USA).

The 2008 U.8 World Champion Tran Minh Thang is still pursuing his passion for chess and is in the top 5 players in Vietnam. Meanwhile, the talented U.10 and U.12 World Champion Nguyen Anh Khoi has temporarily put aside playing chess to focus on his dream of becoming a doctor. He is in his 4th year of studying medicine at VinUni University. The 2015 U.8 World Champion Nguyen Le Cam Hien is pursuing two goals: studying culture and developing a chess career like his senior Le Quang Liem.
